The reason I ask is that I have two eskies. One is 13 now, and since she was a puppy she has never been able to catch anything, even if you throw it right at her, and even if it's food. She has had a lot of trouble going down stairs in the dark, and has barked at family members at night, I think because she can't see who they are. I got another eskie about a year ago, and she has the SAME problems!

Do most eskies have bad eyesight, or do only my eskies have bad eyesight?

Eskie's weren't sled dogs, they're too small. They were circus dogs.

I have an American Eskimo mix and I've noticed that she looks like she's squinting and having a hard time seeing also. What I do know is this. Some of the other related breeds (spitz, samoyed, alaskan malamute) are prone to glaucoma or retinal problems. It would make sense that the eskies might have a problem with it also. I looked before when I noticed my dog squinting and never found anything specifically addressing it with that breed. I know that mine has allergies, so I've always attributed it to that.
