Talking to him is probably the best thing, if you can get him to listen. But don't ignore him or for get about him. Be respectful and try to let him make the choice, but with your guidance. Moving to a better area might help, but gangs are everywhere. So maybe steer him to a church of friends or get involved with some recreations in the community of your area. And do pray about this situation.
Good Luck.

This is a hard one because it doesn't really matter where they see or hear things, they will more likely develop into the person they want to be. Just keep trying to explain to him that it is not something to be proud about and that you don't want him to do it. Also you may want to put him in a camp or basketball program so that draws his attention. Try not to discuss the gangs thing to him.

Most of my friends that were involved in gangs were bored and idolized the whole thing. Keep him busy, and keep the talks up. I try my best to keep our kids involved in all types of things, especially team sports. Good luck.....

I think gangs are stupid. I believe they are the epitome of cowardice for the most part. Strength in numbers is usually the philosophy. Tell your son that if he doesn't want to be a pu55y, don't join a gang.

did you get into gangs to have a sense of family/belonging?
then make sure he is so grounded in life with you and your husband that he does not ever feel the need to look for attachment in a gang

It's not who raises you it's who you hang with. If your son hangs with gangsters that's who he will be. After about 12 what your friends think is what maters, your parents are just lame. I spent five years waiting for THE call as my daughter lived with crips, I understand your fear. You can not tell them who to be friends with, but you can point out dangerous behavior. If your son thinks of his father as a strong,,just and loving man he will see no weakness in not being a gangster.

it maybe to late, he was brought up in that environment so he thinks it's normal and alot of fun.all you & your husband can do now is do what you are doing by communicating with him about the facts and the rest is up to him. don't be so hard on yourself and please if he's over 18 you are not in control of his life anymore so don't put it apond yourself to take responibity for his actions. we can't fix up the past & it is important where we go from today, you are doing the right thing .good luck & god bless

He will be in gangs. What are you thinking? Your only chance to avoid it is to move away. Kids will think if the parents did it then why not them. They have no fear of dieing

I think it all depends on how you both raise him. I think statisticlly he would go towards that path, only because you both have had that path. But if you raise him in a good neighborhood and with respect for himself things with turn out better. I think where you raise your children have alot to do with there future. Just keep that in mind.
