Hey if masturbating (especially for men) is considered a sin, then why are all these studies intending to prove that masturbating actually HELPS fight prostate cancer?

Does God want me to get prostate cancer (and no, I don't believe in any religion)?

Actually according to some articles, they claim that beating off 5 times a week as a young adult can reduce the chance by 1/3.

I cant find the source to that, but I'll link it if I get it.

To the people that have failed to read that I am not a part of ANY religion, I'm not. I'm currently agnostic, and this question was somewhat of a joke, the articles however are real. And this question was intended for the people specially on Y answers whom repeatably claim that you will go to hell because you beat off, be a man or woman.

Generally because one of the most important things in most religions is pro-creation the act of masturbation is what some would call a "waste." Not only are you thinking "dirty" thoughts but you are also "wasting" what a higher power gave you to bring life into the world.
I have no problems with it though, heck I masturbated as much as boys did throughout my adolesance and onword. Then again, I'm not religious, nor do I believe that I will get punish for it, obviously I wasen't having sex because I was satisfied, so whats the big deal?

I know huh it is actually REALLY good for you... not only does it lower risks of protate cancer but it helps relieve stress. In Iraq there was this guy out by a little lake wacking off right in front of the gaurd shack.... apparently according to his religion it was ok... maybe you should try that one because it is true that the Chrisitan God does not like it... but truly as an all seeing God would you want to look down and see everyone wacking off... don't answer that.

The Bible no where specifically forbids or denounces masturbation. It does, of course, denounce all forms of sexual impurity and fantasies that would involve adulterous relationships whether actual or mental. The problem with masturbation is that it not only can become habit forming and addictive, but men and women often engage in pornography and adulterous fantasies in order to reach a climax. Further, the difference in sex drive in a couple is often not the real problem or issue. It is rather a breakdown in the relationship and in an understanding of the role of sex in marriage as that which not only gives pleasure but expresses love, unity, and commitment to each other. Masturbation expresses the opposite unless done with the other partner. The husband may experience orgasm with his wife without actual intercourse. If away from his wife and he is experiencing strong sexual desire and he can have an organism by thinking about his wife, etc. then that could be appropriate.

Most teens have probably been told by someone - "Masturbation is a sin - don't do it", and probably a host of old wives tales about what will happen if they do masturbate. What is important to know is that 90 percent of males have masturbated and 85 percent of women, according to a college student sex survey (Sex on Campus, 2000). This is an issue that almost everyone deals with, and yet we rarely talk about.

Surprisingly, the Bible has very little to say about masturbation. Genesis 38:8-10 is often the most quoted scripture that somewhat refers to masturbation: "Then Judah said to Onan, 'Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother.' But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother.

In the past masturbation was called "onanism" in reference to this Biblical passage. There is some disagreement amongst Christians as to what this passage is deeming as sinful. Some Christians believe that the act of "spilling semen on the ground", in other words, wasting semen, was the sin. They believe that all sexual acts should be for procreation (reproduction) only, which leads to an interpretation that birth control methods and masturbation are sinful, because they waste semen.

Other Christians believe that the sin of Onan was that he was not fulfilling his duty to his brother's wife as required by the cultural standards at the time. This may seem strange to us now, but in those days a widow without children was very likely to die, as it was a male dominated culture, and a woman without a husband or children to help take care of her was likely to die. Some believe that Onan was using his brother's wife for sex, and then not taking care of her as was his responsibility. This group does not believe that this verse is a condemnation of masturbation.

You may consider more carefully the consequenses of sin, or breaking God's laws as being more serious than disease. Every man will die one day, prostate cancer or not.

If you have ever told a lie, stolen something (regardless of value), used God's name in vain, or wanted something that didn't belong to you (coveteousness), then you are clearly guilty in the eyes of God. The consequences of our sin at judgment is more than you can bear. The scripture says that "anyone whose name is not written in the book of life will be hurled into a lake of fire." Fortunately for you, Jesus Christ bore the penalty for your sin upon the cross. Repent and place your trust in Jesus Christ before you die, so that God will not have to send you to hell.

Live as healthy as you are able to without sinning against the Lord. Honor Him with your body. Honor your parents, and He will give you a long life.

Leitzman et al. summarize the key findings of their study by noting that "...our results among predominately white men suggest that ejaculation frequency is not related to increased risk of prostate cancer. High ejaculation frequency MAY POSSIBLY be associated with a lower risk of total and organconfined prostate cancer" (p. 1585).

In other words- the jury is still out.

You'll see that one day some doctors will come out saying those studies are horribly wrong. there is something wrong with it; afterall you feel somewhat guilty afterwards. Its not a physical thing, its more a psychological/mental thing.... something to do with the SOUL...... Ponder that
