Look at this, is there a law BANNING smoking because it kills you silently? NO. So people know its bad and it kills, yet they do..COPS, SENATORS and BEGGARS alike. So why does campaigns like "Click it or Ticket" even ******* come into force. Can I ask a cop next time he pulls me over for not wearing a seatbelt and ask this? Why be blind..I dont care, I know its dangerous (and harm/slowly kill others nearby), yet I choose to smoke, why not the same about wearing seatbelts..your take...

You don't HAVE to wear seatbelts.
You always have a choice.
If you want to take the chances of 1) getting into an accident that sends you flying out the window or getting whiplash (for real) or any other number of injuries that can happen when the UNEXPECTED happens or 2) you get stopped and get fined, then go ahead and not wear one. However, in this day and age - you have to ask yourself what am I rebelling against - really - and is it so high a price to pay for a little extra insurance?
It wasn't THAT long ago that we did not get fined for wearing seatbelts but there was also a time when people didn't realize that smoking could kill you - so, there are no have to's - just choices.

Because, smart guy-if you are in a car without a seat belt, and you get in an accident, you become a very deadly flying object. You can actually kill any other occupants who are in the car with you.
Also, if you do only manage to die yourself due to stupidity, the costs for cleaning up, or scraping up a dead body, transporting it to the coroner, performing the autopsy, filling out the paperwork, notifying the family, cost of a funeral, pain it causes others, is just astronomical when you add it all up.
Why in the world would you choose to not wear a seatbelt?
If you really, really believe you have a right to die, then do it alone, don't involve other unwilling participants.
It's not just "all about you"!

There are laws in some states regarding smoking. Secondly, if you're thrown from your vehicle or even mutilated inside of your vehicle during an accident while not wearing a seatbelt, some poor EMT, making 8-15/hr has to scrape your sorry @ss off the road. It costs lots of money to deal with treating the injuries or cleaning up the deaths of people who refuse to buckle up. Buckle up because I pay taxes for your future mess. Thanks.

I am an ex-paramedic. Back in the 60"s no seat belt law. I got sick and tired of tring to get passenger out from under the dash boards of cars. Most died. If you want to go without go ahead. Just don't have a wreck or run up on a road check. J. Kelly

I don't think we should have to wear seatbelts. It should be a choice. I mean it's basically like they are telling me what to do in my own home and in my own car anymore.

And I'm an EMT. I've seen accidents where seatbelts have KILLED people. They didn't save them, they killed them. So really, if seatbelts can kill you just as well as save you, why not leave it up to me to wear it?

Personally I just feel like it's another thing to get money out of people.

We have to wear seatbelts they say because it will save our life. Little do they know it was a seatbelt that killed my school mate many years ago. She was in an auto accident the car caught fire and the seatbelt jammed.... she burned to death.......I think it should be freedom of choice myself.

i think it should be your choice to wear seat belts or not to. Its your life, if you cant drive and get in a wreck then you have no one else to blame when you fly out the window. Some times seat belts could kill you. For the guy that said something about the emts, thats their JOB.

I'm not sure but usually you find the reason finding who's benefiting from it. There are 2 mayor beneficiaries in that law. The individual that buckles and the insurance company. I bet the insurance company lobbied for that law. Because the other benefactor has no capital gain in it. or do they?

Seat belt laws are just another cash cow for your state. Its odd there are only a few states with helmet laws. Whats up with that? More cars than motorcycles so more money from the car driver. Its not about our safety its about the money. They claim cars are safer than ever with air bags and anti lock brakes so it must be the money they seek not our safety.

Their job is to keep us safe. Many trials and errors have prove Seat Belts save lives. They are protecting you by telling you to buckle up. Give them a break, they are only trying to help and do their job.
Do what you feel like, do not forget everything has its consequences. People know what is right and they still choose to do wrong. Then we hear why o why...
