The idea that the North Korea conducted the missile tests to get America's attention is just a theory favored by mainstream media. I think the more reasonable theory is that North Korea is doing this as retaliation for the State Department's efforts to stop banks around the world from doing business with them. I believe the State Department has been steadily adding pressure to banks around the world since last September, and now, North Korea is finally feeling the pain.

Kim Jong-Il is reckless but not stupid from what I have read. He knows that he won't win in a military show-down with America, but at the same time, he probably has some doubts about G.W.'s sincerity in negoations too. After all, he is declared one of the "axis of evil" by G.W. and look at what happened to Saddam. So he has been asking for a written security guarantee from G.W. if he were to give up his nuke. He probably believes that having a working long-range missile would give him more bargaining chips and decrease the possibility of an American invasion, but in fact, it has made things worse for everyone.

They just want free food and money from the USA and protection from the Japanese and Bush just doesn't want to give it to them so they are forcing a confrontation. Everything is about food, money, oil and power.
