Look in the back of the computer. It should be the jacks where you could plug a speaker out/microphone/source out. You should also see little engravings of a microphone/source in/source out on the back of the sound card itself.
You should see green port/jack, and depending on your sound card, a red/pink and blue port/jack as well.

Well, it depends -- either it is built into your motherboard or it is a separate PCI card. If you look at the back of your computer, there are a bunch of silver slots -- if there is a card in one of the silver slots that has holes for plugging the speakers and microphone in, then your sound card is a PCI card. If it is located in the same area where you plug in you mouse and keyboard, the it is probably in your motherboard. If you have a "canned system" like an HP, Packard Bell, eMachine, or Compaq, it is probably on the motherboard.

Most modern computers (e.g. less than 5 years old) the "sound card" is just a chip.
It is integrated into the system board (or main board).
You can add another sound card, but you would have to go into the "BIOS" and disable the built-in one.
In order to find out for sure if the computer has a sound card, look for three small 3.5mm plugs in the back, lined up in a row. One is red (microphone), one is green (sound out), the other is blue (line in).
usually you plug your speakers into the green one.

Sound cards are two types: On-Board, separate.
Usually the older PCs have separate sound cards (like a graphics card) but nowadays you can find sound card as a part of your mother board. to see where it's located, look at the cable that goes into your case from the speakers, the other side of that part inside the case is where the sound card located.

It really depends on the computer.
Some computers will have a sound card in a PCI slot, which is just a slot on the motherboard where the card can be installed or removed from.
Most home computers utilize a built in sound card which is embedded on the motherboard itself.
