About 6 months ago my left eye had a few days of unusual "attacks", like eruptions or spasms from inside. Not painful, but weird.
They eventually evolved in a classic corneal erosion, despite my attempts to keep the eye moist.
Erosion is long gone, but since then I have a constant pain on the side of my face and, almost from the moment I wake up. It is somehow connected with the eye.
It feels like you are waking up with an eye already very tired, like from hours and hours of watching TV or computer screen.
Pain gets stronger when eye is exposed to strong or just distinctively bright light, but usually gets away at night so with a few exceptions I can sleep pretty much all right.
There is some slight change in vision too, either small raise of diopter or astigmatism. Accomodation is worse.
University clinic eye doctors say there is nothing they can see and I am starting to think it is all neurology-based.
What could it be and what action could I take to stop it?

Some more details:
There was no change in taste.
Explanation for erosion was not given, but I was told I have a gene deffect leading to weak cornea, making me much more likely target for [recurring] erosion.
Didn't explain why I never had those problems for the past 30 years.
Blood tests come out normal.
Initially I was very sure the pain on the side of my face (around the eye, down the cheek) is originated by the cornea so I insisted and they finally agreed to do me a NPG, FPG or whatever other three-letter abbreviation it was - scraping the complete top layer of the cornea so that it grows properly underneath.
As they predicted, that didn't change anything.
There is, however, a possible connection with my jaws. Grr, too little space :-(

This is very interesting. I am an optometry student and had several "guesses" but nothing that seems to fit just right. Could you provide any more specifics or information about your problem?
The eye feeling tired, the spasms, accomodation worsening, and problems with the sunlight sound like a problem with your ciliary body which is responsible for your accomodation. The ciliary body is one of two parts of your eye that actually feel pain. The other part is your cornea. So, if you "feel" something from inside your eye it is due to the ciliary body having a spasm.
The pain radiating to the side of your face confuses me. And makes it sound like a neurological problem, perhaps with one of your cranial nerves. Face pain is often due to a problem with the seventh cranial nerve but it doesn't tie into the ciliary body. Has there been any change in taste or hearing?
The erosion combined with some of the symptoms makes me think of a problem with herpes simplex keratitis. Was there a reason given ever for the erosion? The herpes simplex can affect the trigeminal ganglion which in turn can affect many of the cranial nerves.
Perhaps try to do some research of your own on the herpes simplex virus affecting the trigeminal ganglion or other disorders affecting the trigeminal ganglion.
Good luck and keep up posted!

Think perhaps you may need to get back to doc. Are you feeling a little low? Sometimes depression can take this form - ME is another disorder which can cause tiredness, also diabetes, respiratory problems. There are quite a few health possibilities that could be eliminated by any other symptoms you are experiencing and further testing by the doc. A lot of people suffer from allergies at this time of year and this too can make you feel tired. Hope you feeling better real soon. Good wishes

Cold sores are caused by the herpes virus. Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.
remember that you can remove genital warts by surgery, freezing, laser, acid or cream but genital warts can reappear again and again because genital warts appears when your immune system is weak!
I got diagnosed with herpes type 2 about seven years ago, when I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. However, Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again!

You have a nerve the exits the skull in the eyebrow and in the cheek.. If they are sore to the touch, there is an inflamatory process involving the cranial nerves.. the usual ones involved in migrain syndrome. You will find a corresponding tenderness at the base of the skull, primarily on one side. Will pursue this further if you wish to contact me.

Sounds like the symptoms of dry eye. try some over-the-counter dry eye drops. You know, fake tears. This should relieve even the change in vision. It works for me. "Systane" is the brand recommended by my ophthalmologist.
