It's not how many of the same exercise you do, but how many different ways you work the muscle; crunches are just part of it. You need to do crunches, leg lifts, etc...work them until they burn..and do this on an empty stomach.

Actually not too many. If your abs aren't that built yet, doing more than like, 50 does nothing more than the original 20 did. Start slow and build your way up over time. Also do a variety of excercises for the best results, like crunches, sit ups, knee/hip raises, curls, and more. Most beginners should start at about 1 set of 3-10 reps 3 days a week and then work their way up slowly to 3 or 4 reps of 10 for 3 or 4 days a week. (You need time off between excercise days to let the muscles build up. If you excercise vigourously every single day, you can damage the muscle tissue). I'm sure there's tons of great sites out there that will give you detailed schedules of what to do and how many of each. Or join your local YMCA (about $30 a month I think) and you can get a free personal trainer or consultant to help you out.
Good luck! Don't overdo it or you'll just get really sore!

You should start off with only about 20 and go up from there about 5-10 a day until you get what you want.

A six pack starts in the kitchen...youre diet is KEY to the six pack. Crunches just work the upper abs, you gotta work all sides...Do enough to where you can feel them actually being worked out.

start with 10 a day, (more like 30, 10 in the middle, then 10 off to each side to work obliques) then keep going on til lyouve got what you want.

everyday until you can't do anymore. seriously. the more you do it, eventually you'll be able to do like 500 hundred a day and not even realize it. by that time you'll be ripped.
