The Buddhist canon of scripture is known in Sanskrit as the Tripitaka and in Pāli as the Tipitaka. These terms literally mean "three baskets" and refer to the three main divisions of the canon, which are:
The Vinaya Piṭaka, containing disciplinary rules for the Saṅghas of Buddhist monks and nuns, as well as a range of other texts including explanations of why and how rules were instituted, supporting material, and doctrinal clarification.
The Sūtra Piṭaka (Pāli: Sutta Piṭaka), contains the actual discourses of the Buddha.
The Abhidharma Piṭaka (Pāli: Abhidhamma Piṭaka) contains commentaries or systematic expositions of the Buddha's teachings.

I found good, easy to follow information in both the Idiot's Guide to ... and Buddhism for Dummies.
The great thing about these two is that they introduce you to all the different (or at least a lot of them) different forms that Buddhism takes. I highly recommend them.
When you're done with them, pick up Zen: The Path to Paradox by Osho. I too think he's absolutely brilliant, but he doesn't represent everything that Buddhism is about, and in fact might not have considered himself a Buddhist....

There are so many and I used eight of them to learn about Buddhism. Unfortunately I don't have them now and can't give you the titles. But at the top of the page is 'Search for Questions' Type in Buddhism and click on search. You'll be surprised what comes up.
Good luck

If you are up for a scholarly treatment then Thomas Cleary has a series on Classics. A basic reader is the Dharma Sutra, and if your in to Esoteric theory try the Diamond Sutra which is apt to have better interpretative critiques than the Lotus Garland or Heart Sutra.

The Bible. In it you will find salvation by trusting in what the Lord Jesus Christ did on the cross for you. He died for you sins, and He was buried and took your sins away and He rose again for your justification. Budd bones are still in the grave. Jesus Crist is alive He is risen,
