I totally depends on the child. Some five year old boys can focus on a task for 20 mintues or longer, while others it's a struggle for five minutes.

My son is eight and when he was five, reading was NOT a priority for him, he loved books and if WE read to him he would sit for an hour (we would reach chapter books to him), but for him to do it, forget it. Don't force the issue, if he's only going to sit for ten mintues then that's as long as you read.

Boys tend to be alot "bouncier" than girls when it comes to focusing, just the nature of the beast.

Now my son is reading well beyond his grade level and doing very well in school.

I would say about 10-15 minutes. Right now all a 5yr old would be doing is looking at the pictures and telling a story from that, not necessarily reading. They may recognize letters and some familiar words, but it is not likely. (my wife is a 1st grade teacher and our son is 5yrs old)

When my nine year old was five, he would read happily for two minutes, or until he was done with a short story in his reader. However, his short attention span was not an indicator of his intellectual abilities. He is in the gifted program, now, and usually has a stress ball to work in one hand while reading, or his teacher lets him chew gum.

i found it a lot less complicated to allow maccas do all of it. it really is a lot cheap and they clean up the mess. they have unique circumstances so your not stuck with stragglers. i take advantage to hate it at the same time as the mums might want to drop them off and be lower back previous due, its so impolite yet takes position plenty. If u even if favor to do it at abode make certain u have an outside table so ur abode does not get squashed cake etc contained in the carpet. i might want to do each and every of the classic topics as at 5yrs previous boys & women persons even if carry close at the same time so if u desire a topic basically say costume ups. Do the bypass the parcel, musical chairs, pin the tail and pinyatas' are truly expensive and do not come full of lollies so I made my personal yet used timber glue so it took 3hrs to finally chop up open yet they'd plenty relaxing doing it - they have been actually dissatisfied at the same time as it opened. bypass on your $2 keep once you've them there and purchase a lot cheap provides for the bypass the parcel & at 5 they're able to't see u yet u have 2 cheat so each and every person receives a turn to open it. I often make up 2 of them. childrens then have relaxing basically collaborating in. If u would have sufficient money a jumping fort they're great. everybody put in at yuletide 4 the toddlers & it keeps them chuffed & busy. basically pray for a warmth or warmth day so as it really is outside. have relaxing too you get to act like somewhat one lower back and no one cares. chuffed Birthday on your son.

my son just turned 5. hand him a comic book, age appropriate of course, and he will sit for an hour or so going through it. so we started reading them to him and showing him how to sound out the words. we're not there yet, but the comic books help big time. his father and i are huge readers, our son sees us reading all the time. so i guess that's why he likes to read too. my son will sit with any book and really concentrate for a long period of time even a chapter book, but comic books are the best.
