Different breads & cheese combinations

Use a hearty white bread (get it from a bakery) and grill it with brie and thinly sliced pears or apples.

Grilled white cheddar, bacon and tomato on rye is good too.

In high school I'd order a grilled cheese and a taco on taco day, then peel my grilled cheese open and dump the taco meat in. (The taco shells were always stale; I'd just toss those in the trash.)

Also: if you want the perfect golden crust on the grilled side of the bread, don't butter it...put a pat of butter in the pan and let it melt, then place the sandwich into the melted butter. When you're ready to flip it, quickly add another pat of butter, let it melt, then flip the uncooked side of the sandwich into the butter. This way the sandwich gets browned more evenly, and the butter melts uniformly (less chance of burning, too).

Here are four different combos; I've personally tried three out of the four. They're great! The ingredients are for four sandwiches.

Salsa Turkey
1/2 cup Taco Bell Home Originals Salsa
24 slices shaved smoked turkey breast
1 large tomato, cut into thin slices
4 lettuce leaves
4 slices Deli Deluxe Colby Jack cheese

BBQ Beef
1/4 cup Kraft Original Barbecue Sauce
16 slices shaved roast beef
1 small red onion, sliced
4 slices Deli Deluxe mild cheddar cheese

Ham & Swiss
4 tsp Grey Poupon dijon mustard
24 slices shaved smoked ham
1 large tomato, cut into thin slices
4 slices Deli Deluxe aged swiss cheese

Bologna Griller
1/4 cup ketchup
4 slices bologna
16 Claussen bread 'n' butter pickle chips
4 slices 2% milk american single slices

After choosing a sandwich, follow these 3 simple steps:

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Take 1/4 cup Miracle Whip dressing and spread it on one side each of 8 bread slices. Place 4 of the bread slices on greased baking sheet, dressing-sides down. (Dressing on the outside browns the outer crust.)

2. Spread bread slices on baking sheet with flavorings. Top with meat, veggies and cheese; cover with remaining 4 bread slices; dressing-sides up.

3. Bake 6 minutes, or until golden brown; turn over. Bake an additional 6 to 7 minutes, or until sandwiches are golden brown on both sides.

Makes 4 sandwiches.

I slice a hotdog down it's length into three or four pieces.. I fry the hotdog like that and then make a regular grilled cheese and add the hotdog to it BEFORE grilling... the cheese melts around the hotdog.. very tasty.

I have also done the same thing with pastrami, corned beef, spiced ham, and other luncheon meats. I have also added slices of yellow and orange pepper.

good bread and good cheese

iggys fresh bread is my fav only 1.49 but it goes stale so buy it four times a week. Then good cheese, Cabot cheddar or maybe a cave ripened ementhaler. Then some olive oil and a touch of butter. Grill it outside for best flavor, or just in cast iron works too. Or bake it. Some ham or cooked bacon is good on it too.

Try adding any, or all, of the following:
Bacon, Tomato, Onion, Mushrooms, Ham, Jalapenos, Hot Sauce, Salsa, Grilled Chicken, what ever you have in the fridge.

Swiss, Havarti, Cheddar (of course), Gouda, Mozza, Cheeze Wiz (DUH).

For added flair, do a triple decker clubhouse style. With 3 pieces of bread.

This one my kids LOVE (now they are 26, 25 and 11 but hey, they still love it) spread Miracle whip on the inside slices, then add one slice of cheese to one side. Add a thin slice of tomato and a couple of shreds of very thin deli meat (optional) a couple of thin slices of avacado and top with another slice of cheese. Butter both top slices of bread and grill to brown and melty and serve with tomato soup. I use always two different types of cheese, usually american and mozzerella. I have also used provolone, a tad of blue cheese, velvetta, swiss, cheddar both mild and sharp. It is up to you, but I have always had requests for seconds to anyone who has tried my sandwiches. I also use crusty bread and sprouted breads for variety. Good luck and enjoy!! Nana

me and my boyfriend eat
grilled cheese all the time
we started gettin tired
of the original
so we started playin around with it
we cooked some bacon
with brown sugar
then put the bacon aside
made the grilled cheese but before
the cheese melts to much
we put the bacon back in
and add some tomatoe and lettuce
OKAY, so basically we made a BLT
with melted cheese, but it was really good
and made us think we were clever =)

I like my grilled cheese with pickles. If the pickles come from the fridge, warm them up in the pan before you put them between 2 pieces of melted cheese on 2 pieces of bread.

If you want to add a little salt flavoring, stick a few of your favorite potato chips on it too!

I always use wheat and white American. I've tried swiss a few times, and I wouldn't touch it again. Swiss cheese is great, but not for grilled cheese.
