Like people tell us to be more tolerant, but I have trouble tolerating a lot of things, like lazy slobs, people who want to change the nature of things, people who use foul language. so I am thinking people who dont respect this in me, are not tolerant of me.

True love means telling people the truth. Tolerance (at least these days) means to avoid telling the truth.

For example, if Christians take a biblical stand on something, the first thing out of some people's mouths is: "You're being intolerant!" Whatever biblical stance we take, we are all too often labeled as bigots or intolerant. Rarely will someone tell us that we are telling the truth.

Without stating this isn't exactly the right category, I suggest a few things.

First of all "Tolerance" and "Acceptance" are compromises we as a species make in order to exist, survive, pass through life, as comfortably as possible.

In order to "tolerate" one must "accept" AND YOU can apply that variously. One of the things you might consider is acceptance of others, no matter your tolerance level of them or their situation, based on a biased or inert, or learned behavior or attitude.

I'll give you a brief example:

I see a rather shabby man, picking food from a dumpster, and relaxing in eating it. Do I judge that he is a BUM? Do I judge that he is lazy, a slob, a no account human? OR might I accept the fact that in not knowing his situation, or reasons for doing what I witnessed, that he may in fact just be very hungry, and found an opportunity?

He may in fact be judging himself as being in an intolerable and unacceptable situation, but I can't judge. Soooo then what can I do?

Has he adversely affected my life? My habits? My ability to not be in, or try to understand his "place"?

I tolerate him, because I accept that he may have no other options he is aware of, or has attempted options he has been denied in. Hence, I accept him, though feel empathy and a sadness for his situation. But even in that I am judging. He may have in fact, CHOSEN that life, and I already exist in a "Glass House" and don't keep many stones around.

Another, and even more important issue is SELF RESPECT, and the knowledge that only YOU have to live your life. If you feel ignored, disregarded, disrespected, abused, etc. then perhaps ONLY YOU can effect changes in that, from within.

I guess it can be... but then, parents don't tolerate when their children do things against their wishes, but I'm sure those parents still Love their children. Tolerance has more to do with respect, I think, than Love. You may not tolerate a lazy slob, but are you going to go around to everyone's house to keep them from being lazy? No, you would respect their privacy (I hope)... I think these types of words can be linked to one another, but are rarely synonymous

Yes I think they go into the same boat, like you cant have the moon without the sun, you cant love without tolerance, Its a couple, along with alot more when it comes to love, God will bless you for being a grea a cerious person.. Have a good day

The verse, "in the last days, because inequity abounds, the love of many will wax cold"..means exactly what we're seeing around us. People are full of resentment, are just plain seething, and you can see it exploding all over; in traffic, in lines in the stores....there seems to be very little regard for others.

I don't mean all people are like this of course, but courtesy is in pretty short supply, in my observation.

I don't think it means that listening to foul language shouldn't upset you...I don't think anyone should enjoy that. I think it means that people are short tempered and furious about alot of things, and it's coming out all over the place.

No it is not the same thing. Tolerance is what is going on with our world as we know it today. Our world lives in the darkness of sin, and Jesus is the light that can bring people out of that darkness.

What is happening is that , instead of people seeking the light of Jesus, and going against what the world of today is doing, which is following satan's ways and not Jesus's ways, they are letting their spiritual eyes get adjusted to the darkness of the sinful world which we now live in, which translates to tolerance.

God is all about goodness, rightousness, love, compassion etc. Satan is about the opposite. darkness, lies, sexual lustful sins. homosexual lifestyles etc. These are all of satan.

No. Tolerance and love are absolutely NOT the same things.

Love from God is unconditional. God has no tolerance for sin.

I'm more concerned with evil behavior. For example, people who try to make others believe we should tolerate marxism and genocide.....in other words, liberals.
