I'm a Catholic too. Any book is ok to read, as long as you read it with an open mind. However, I didn't like the book. I bought it when it first came out, and I stopped after ch.10. I just didn't like the writing style and the way it jumps around after building up the suspense.

Ya know, for the folks that think it is full of lies, they should try reading the bible. Full of lies.
A book is only true if you believe it to be true.
Truth is based on experience.
Truth is based on perspective.
Do I think the book is true?
No more so than I believe the bible, the koran, or any other book to be true. I have read them. They are nice stories. Just like DaVinci code and Green Eggs and Ham.
I find truth within.

It is a thrilling tale of mystery and adventure. If you are not so close-minded as the rest of the people who classify themselves as you do, you will be big enough to enjoy it as a story, and nothing necessarily more than that. Even though there is some credibility to the premises the book suggests, it doesn't need to be taken as fact.

I am a Catholic. I must say that I am very saddened to hear that you bothered to give Dan Brown another cent. I mean, it is 'just' fiction---but at least get it for $1.00 of half.com or something!

You might want to check out the official site that the USCCB put forth on the book and movie. http://www.jesusdecoded.com/

why wouldn't it be OK to read? It's fiction after all and based on another book of fiction.
Why would you worry about reading the book? After all, you've paid for it, you might as well get your money's worth. Though I have to warn you, like the bible, it's very poorly written.
If it wasn't for the trumped-up controversy, no one would read this POS...

Its a book, not a bear trap. Read it, enjoy it, and lighten up.

Besides, if it's not "OK to read," then you can always burn it. Or you can just refuse to read / confront anything that you disagree with in the future . . . let me know how that goes.

You shouldn't worry too much about it, as long as you realize that it is only a story. It's made up. Fabricated. Lies, if you will.
