Yes, as long as they don't wear anything too revealing. It's good for her to be in some kind of sport, it will give her exercise and give her a chance to get away from the television.

My daughter was an incredibly shy child, who would not talk to anybody. When she was four she wanted to dance, and the only place locally that took kids that young was a dance and cheer school.
Well the teacher was amazing, now at the age of eight she has enough confidence to perform a solo at nationals in front of 3,000 people without blinking an eye. I am so thankful for everything that cheerleading has done for my child.
But be careful, my daughter has been blessed with an amazing understanding wonderful coach. At some of the competitions that she attends I have seen/heard some coaches screaming at little girls (like around the of four) for not getting something just right. Talk to the coach before hand and find out how she deals with kids, and if possible talk to some of the other moms or dads.
Don't let your perceptions of what a cheerleader acts or looks like influence your decision, if I had my child wouldn't of accomplished everything that she has in the last few years.
Cheerleading is actually a very competitive sport.

There are many classes that a 6 yr old can take right now, but they can get kind of costly. My daughter joined a Poms class in kindergarden. It's cheerleading, with dance added to it. She loved it! And it was good exercise.
I wasn't a cheerleader in high school. Originally regretted my daughter asking if she could be one. But, she gets great exercise, has made some new friends, has learned the basics of routine, the responsibilities of learning and getting to class on time - and most importantly, how to have fun doing something she likes.
But, she still goes fishing with me. So I'm ok with her girly girl part.

Cheerleading is fun, they learn routines and learn to work together as a team. I would put her in dance if she is interested in Cheerleading because that is a big part of it. Maybe gymnastics. I never liked sports when I was young. All I did was dance. I really enjoyed and did it 5 days a week. Kids with extra activities stay out of trouble because they are not bored looking for something to do.

Why not? At my old cute little tiny public school, the cheerleader's ages ranged from 3-11. That wasn't really cheerleading, just a couple songs during basketball games, but still!

My daughter has been talking about this, too. I decided against it for this year, mainly because it was a 4 evening per week committment on our part (that's not including games!), and right now I'd rather she kept a more diverse field of interests.
I did use her desire to be a cheerleader to get her to stick with gymnastics, and to try an acro class, and if she still wants to next year, I'll probably let her try.

Mine does too, so I set out certain conditions, you stick with it and no dropping out no matter what. If she doesn't like it, then she doesn't have to go back next year, simple as that. She is to particitpate in everything that the coaches as her to do, as long as no one is hurting her. Personally, I let my daughter do it because it will keep her active, I would rather her be a cheerleader than what I was: a fat stoner.

My neice is going to some cheerleading camp. She's 10.
Her parents are REAL concerned about her safety, getting hurt, which at this writing I have not seen mentioned.
My niece wants to be a flyer, tossed around, because she's thin.

thats fine as long as she doesnt choose the wrong friends. Movies and books make cheerleaders seem mean and preppy who get into all types of problems but really there just like a volley ball team or basketball team. Its a great excercise and you make a lot of friends. They just want to show school spirit and get movin'!!!!!!!! :)

It can be because it helps with building team spirit, flexability, etc. I would check with parents of kids already on the squad to see what they like or dislike about it. If it is too unhealthy for the girls, or they tell you something that makes you uncomfortable, then it is not a good idea.
