good idea, bad idea....? What are your thoughts? Some restaurants here in AZ have no cell phone policies (you can have them, but they must be turned off, or on vibrate and you must go outside to use them). What do you think?

Guess, I should have said what type of restaurant, nicer, more upscale than Applebee's or Chili's or the like....

Discretion and courtesy count. most of the irritating cell phone use is due to inconsiderate people. Whether it's on the cell phone or at the table across the room, I don't need to hear how bad Aunt Alice's eye infection got.

When I go to a restaurant, the last thing I want to hear is a ringing phone and someone yapping away about nothing for 10 minutes. Business EMERGENCIES should be taken (phone on vibrate) but the person should walk outside to take the call. People are very rude with cell phones.

I love the idea. We don't allow them to be turned on in our office. We a a part of the County Government and we have people coming in all the time. We finally had to ban them because of the noise of 4-5 people talking at the same time. If I'm at a bar or restraunt, I don't want to hear some one's phone conversation/

No they shouldn't even if some persons could study manners...there's a time and position for each thing. i do not sense it would nicely be amazing to run round a keep or anyplace with a telephone glued on your head. in the experience that they have got been used as they could be then we do not pick the obstacle with cells ringing and the completed rudeness we do now days

I absolutely hate it when I'm having a nice dinner and somone at the next table gets a phone call. And, as if the stupid ringtone wasn't enough of an annoyance, they talk at the top of their lungs, as if we're all interested in their stupid conversation. And EVERY SINGLE call I've ever overheard in public is NOT important. I say, if you're expecting a super-important call (and I'm talking, wife in labor, dead relative, MAJOR stuff), then perhaps you should not be out to dinner anyway. Cells were intended for emergencies, not spending every second of your life socializing. Why not invite your friends out to dinner with you???

It depends on the atmosphere in the place. I don't think it's something that, say, Denny's could establish, but if you're looking for a nice dinner at hip restaurant, why should you have to hear the over dramaticized ramblings of some ****** who just doesn't know how to relax and leave the job/kids(/blood test results?) behind? I've enjoyed my experience at "unplugged" restaurants.

I like it.
I wish it didn't have to come to that but a lot of people just do not have manners anymore. Why in the world should everyone else have to be subjected to listening to their phone conversations. It's rude and it's inconsiderate.
I thought it was a joke until I actually saw one jerk actually take a call inside a movie theater. Fortunately, they got ushered out pronto.

I love it! I would like a list of those restaurants so I can take my husband to them. He would then be forced to turn off his cell phone for an hour and talk to me.
P.S. He works for a cell phone company. Ugh!

I think it depends on the type of restaurant. If I was dining at the Four-Seasons, it would be reasonable to ban cell phone usage in order to have a more pleasant dining experience, but if I was at McDonald's, that could be expressed only in the following manner...THAT IS THE STUPIDEST FRIKIN' THING EVER!!!!!!!!

People who receive phone calls at restaurants should get up and go outside to talk. It's rude to sit at the table and talk to your phone while everyone else at the table has to be quiet because you're on the phone. Tacky, tacky, tacky!
