You're thinking of sake, but the Japanese call it nihonshu. Usually served warm in the US, but most sake drinkers elsewhere drink it at room temperature or even cold; it depends on the person's preference.
BTW it's not really rice wine - the way it's fermented is closer to the way beer is fermented.
