What is the meaning of life, a Zen Master was asked.
Muuuuuuuuuuu!

What is the meaning of life, another Master was asked.
Sense you have finished you meal, wash your bowl!

What is the meaning of Life a third was asked.
The Master merely shook his fist!

As for inspiration:
An Estimate of personal merit is necessary to the common faculty of mankind, yet the aspiring efforts of genius or virtue are measured not so much by their real elevation, as by the height to which they ascend above age or country.....And thus, what might have gone relatively un-noticed in a land of giants, must be all the more conspicuous in an age of pygmies.

That is what inspired me to become a Writting Master, but as the consequences were to no personal benefit , I wrote the following refutation to Dreyden's romantic view.

You can never expect the common lot to appreciate the value of things they cannot hope to comprehend!

My favorite quotes:

Man, as a curious accident in a backwater, is intelligible: his mixture of virtues and vices is such as might be expected to result from a fortuitous origin. But only abysmal self-complacency can see in Man a reason which Omniscience could consider adequate as a motive for the creator. The Copernican revolution will not have done its work until it has taught men more modesty than is to be found among those who think Man sufficient evidence of Cosmic Purpose.

And the most ridiculous concept ever perpetrated by H.Sapiens is that the, "lord god of creation, shaper and ruler of the Universe," wants the saccharine adoration of his creations, that he can be persuaded by their prayers, and becomes petulant if he does not receive this flattery. Yet this ridiculous notion, without one real shred of evidence to bolster it, has gone on to found one of the oldest, largest, and least productive industries in history.

And I find that there is something feeble and a little contemptable about a man who cannot face the perils of life without the help of comfortable myths. Almost inevitably some part of him is aware that they are myths and that he believes them only because they are comforting. But he dare not face this thought! Moreover, since he is aware, however dimly, that his opinions are not real, he becomes furious when they are disputed. And in spite of all the yearnings of men, no one can produce a single fact or reason to support the belief in god or in personal immortality.

I will permit no man to narrow and degrade my soul by making me hate him. -Booker T. Washington

I did not begin when I was born, nor when I was conceived. I have been growing, developing, through incalculable myriads of

promptings in me. Oh, incalculable times again shall I be born. -Jack London

My life often seemed to me like a story that has no beginning and no end. I had the feeling that I was an historical fragment, an excerpt for which the preceding and succeeding text was missing. I could well imagine that I might have lived in former centuries and there encountered questions I was not yet able to answer; that I had been born again because I had not fulfilled the task given to me. -Carl Jung

It can be shown that an incorporeal and reasonable being has life in itself independently of the body... then it is beyond a doubt bodies are only of secondary importance and arise from time to time to meet the varying conditions of reasonable creatures. Those who require bodies are clothed with them, and contrariwise, when fallen souls have lifted themselves up to better things their bodies are once more annihilated. They are ever vanishing and ever reappearing. -Origen

"Dream as if you have forever, and Live as if you only have today"
Helped me go through some very tough decisions and helped me do some adventurous things I never thought I do, like scuba dive or stand on a bridge and look down into the waterfall. Nothing drastic but were some very difficult things to do since I was afraid of sharks and heights!.
