in what context? I think it's just ignorance mainly, and non understanding of the situation they are commenting on. Also they say things they beleive will make you feel better because they don't know what to say, not because they are being rude.
I went through this after I had an ectopic pregnancy. People saying things they think will make you feel better when in fact it's the complete opposite.
I'd rather they said nothing to be honest, wait until Iask them for their opinion.

Sometimes you have to be tough to teach somebody a lesson or the right way to do things, since being nice obviously doesn't work anymore.

Some children are brought up to not be polite anymore. I know someone who has taught their children to not say please or thank you because they feel it is subservient. I mean come on people who is above using their p's and q's.

Because they were brought up to disrespect people, and their parents didn't teach them any manners.

They do that so you won't attack them for whatever mean thing they are saying. It's a defense mechanism.
