Do black people really need to skin protect in the sun? Is our skin more susceptible to sun damage or what? I mean, I grew up in AFrica in the blistering sun of the Kalahari Desert and never had to wear anything for it! The first time I "heard" of skin cancer was when I came to Egland!

Imagine how much a lifetime supply of sun screen for me and my family would be!!! I mean, we have 10 months of hot wheather and 2 months of cool (not really cold) wheather. Im African - the continent is struggling to feed itself - we are trying to get some food, NEVER MIND sunscreen!

I think everyone has to worry about protecting their skin regardless of skin colour. If you have skin, you can get skin cancer. Fair skin is more prone to skin cancer and damage than dark skin. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common skin cancer for people with dark skin.

I think it depends on the complexion. I'm a very light black man so I will burn without it. However, I have friends that just get darker and don't burn at all. Just because you didn't "hear" of skin cancer doesn't mean it didn't exist. The entire world is a new place and environmental changes could be changing the the suns effects on all of us.

I think thtat all people would need to protect their skin from the sun. Light skinned people are not the only people who get skin cancer.

Black people do not need sunscreen. They need to stop letting whites trick them into thinking they do. Whites' skin is poor and damaged by the sun easily. In Africa the black people walk around in that hot sun all day and they do not get cancer or damage from it and they do not use any sunscreen. The sun is good for black skin

yup even when you have dark skin you can still tan, I believe your skin is probably less susceptible to damage than light skin, but you still need to protect it or you can get skin cancer.
