The US is always trying to stop other countries from possessing nuclear weapons, but they have them too. Why is that?

(I personally do not want anyone to have nuclear weapons)

The US and most civilized nations do not want rogue states from possessing NBC capabilities due to the fact that those nations cannot demonstrate their ability to act in a rational and responsible manner. Some examples:
Iran: Have openly expressed their desire to see Israel completely destroyed by any means necessary.
Yugoslavia (when it still existed): Ethnic cleansing
And of course, who can forget the holocaust.

NBC capabilities and irresponsible people/governments do not mix.

It was at the of World War 2 and during the Cold War that we developed Nuclear weapons and the only reason to just brag or boost that we have more than Russia. Now that we realize our mistake that we do not want any other country to make that mistake. Also I think there is an international law after we developed the nuclear weapons and the cold war was over.

i'm an Australian so my decision may be slightly off guided yet whilst nuclear weapons are superb damaging, irradiated the land for infinite years and reason beginning defects for merely as long that's what happens in the event that they are used. So nuclear weapons could be a devastating deterrent if some u . s . gets slightly super for their boots that risk can get tossed at them and get their interest while not something will. which would be one clarification why the US are the only ones allowed to have nukes. additionally undergo in concepts that a gun does not kill a man or woman a man or woman kills a man or woman and an identical rule appliess with nukes. america of a additionally seems to view this is self because of the fact the international police (by ability of the strikes it has accomplished over the years Iraqi, Vietnam and the Black Hawk Down incident just to call some) so their questioning may be that a cop with a gun will possibly not fret as much as a cop without gun, as a thank you to communicate. Or it merely may be that the US government may be so decrease than the impression of alcohol with power that the regulations that certain others does not applie to them because of the fact they are the worlds in user-friendly terms superpower and opt to proceed to be the only superpower. yet without all the info i will't say which decision it would desire to be or it would desire to be yet another decision yet a asserting is composed of concepts with this question and this is. "the only factor a man or woman with power craves greater is greater power"

I agree with you, no one should have them. In answer to your question the US is big, rich and currently run by Nazis so the government feel they can bully the rest of the world and steal their lunch money, oil, diamonds or whatever else they like. One of the main ways they get away with this is that my stupid bl*ody country, as well as many others, not only lets them but actually helps! In order to be good bullies they obviously need the biggest stick so they attack others who also have "weapons of mass destruction" in the hope, I assume, that one day they will be the only ones with them and they can rule the world. The sooner Bush goes the better for Americans and the rest of the world.

Several countries have nuclear weapons, including Israel, Great Britian, France, India, and Pakistan.

The idea is to limit further spread. Don't get me wrong, though, I do see the point of "Well, you have them, and we're suppose to trust you". It's just that there's no way we'd ever give them up. It's best to at least limit them.

Because we think we're the good guys and would never abuse their use and everyone else is the bad guy and can't be trusted. Unfortunately all the nations & government officials lie (including ours) so they feel justified in keeping the weapons because they know the others are lying. It's a Catch-22.

the us would never use a nuclear weapon unless it was absolutely needed. the decision would have to be approved by two houses and the president. these countries like north korea are dictatorships where at the whim of one person millions of people could die.

Because we are not likely to hand them over to terrorist will use them to cause great harm; and because we do not threaten other nations with them in any way but self defense. Quite simple really;

Can you trust North Korea and Iran with the same theory? I mean if they truly would only use them in self defense I see no problem with them; but alas I can't believe for a second they would keep them for self defense. They'll hand them off to al queda, sell them to the highest bidder, and we'll watch an American city go up in a mushroom cloud.
