Unfortunately it is a matter of pride, and it's very difficult for a guy to not be concerned about their own size because of the focus on it in the media and in pornos. We're fed with this idea or born with the concept that the smaller your penis is the more insignificant you are and the less appealing you are to the opposite sex. I personally have heard many conversations take place where a girl refers negatively to a guy's size and laughs about it. It's like a relative stigmata that's difficult to define.
I've also known some guys who admitted they tell girls they are small because "then they won't be dissapointed" even though they consider themselves well-endowed.
Hope this helps.

Every male is born with a part of him that is competitive. And being able to say that my member is bigger than yours is a competitive thing. Something that we are born with. We also want to be able to say that at least mine was bigger than the last one you where with, or will be bigger than the next one. Not everyone is the same, and size does matter to some girls/women. Being of average size, I wish mine was a little bigger, but not so big that it might scare or hurt who ever I am with. But I wouldn't want to be any smaller, because I wouldn't want to worry about being laughed at by who every I was with.

properly, I´m a lady or perhaps if I´m inebriated i comprehend what's small. Don´t be so bittered, you'll come across a lady in the destiny, and he or she will love your dick (sounds to me like you´ve been dumped, frequently it´s not for the dimensions of youre´willy).

They worry about it because they don't want you to think less of them if their manhood is smaller than your ex. Remember, men have egos.

I never really thought it was that much of a big deal, especially since you can't do anything to make it smaller or bigger. I'd rather be pleased with what I have. Or maybe that's just an italian thing...............

They think that determines how much of a man they are and are misinformed being told that's the only thing that matters when pleasing a woman.

It is probably an ego thing genetically ingraved into us. We don't want to be dethroned of any manly power we posses...in short we don't want to be seen as weak.
