You might check out the Phoenix Park Hotel--it is a wonderful Irish hotel near Union Station--actually it is about a block away. The rates might be reasonable during the summer "off-season" in Washington. It is a quick trip on the Metro from Union Station to the Catholic University stop.

You might also check out bed and breakfast options in the area. It is possible that the Catholic University alumni center office--or a similar office --might know of places like this that might be available close by. This might be worth checking out!

Look in Silver Spring, it has gotten a lot better in the past year or so and is only three stops on the red line metro from Catholic U.

Catholic University is in a ghetto part of town. Stay somewhere safer and further out of the area.

i don't think there are any good hotels near catholic university...try staying somewhere along the metro red line...Cath U is at Brookland-CUA on the map (see link below)...if i were you, I would find a hotel along the red line between the stations galleryplace and tenleytown.
