to a question about what God expects His children to do about the genocide in Darfur?

"He would want us to aid those we could without aiding their resistance movement or supporting any organized fighting. Giving food, shelter and clothes would be acceptable, along with transportation away. More than that would not be Christian because it would be miring yourself into todays fight to "making right" the world which can never work with satan as its ruler. Seek out your own salvation and leave the world to itself."

It is a typical dispensationalist response - the idea that "the earth is a sinking ship, why bother polishing the brass." Dispensationalists believe that the world is about to end, Jesus is about to return, and so salvation comes first.

A non-dispensationalist response would indicate greater interaction. A Catholic response would include diplomatic and political action to attempt to end the violence altogether and form a lasting peace. Catholics believe that Christ will return, and that the end of the world is always near, but unlike dispensationalists we believe that we must follow Christ's commands to be holy as well as the commands to make peace, feed the hungry, heal the sick, show mercy.

Dispensationalism also has a tendency to be millenarian in aspect, that violence is God's way of bringing about the return of Christ, and so should not be interfered with.

This particular statement indicates reasoning along the lines of what was called the Manichean Heresy - the idea that Heaven belongs to God, earth to Satan, and we should be trying to escape. It is a dangerous mindset. Christ appointed us as bringers of light into the world, and admonished us to live the Beatitudes. To do less is to relegate Christianity to an entirely cerebral realm. Christians are to be involved in this messy, violent and dangerous world, and integrity requires us to relieve suffering and end the violence.

Thus, this is a response typical only of a minority group of Christians, who have a loud and aggressive position on these boards.

In Christ,

But if we look into this, are we controvening God's will because those people are meant to die?

By giving aid and support, we are aiding their resistance. They are standing up to the mindless slaughter by surviving with our help.

I am not saying that we should stand around and do nothing. Genocide is wrong anywhere it happens, but the Christian response seems to fall short of the real answer, stopping the madness.

We will send Crusaders to the Holy Land to drive out the infidels, but we won't stop the killing of a race because it would be "making right" the world?

I am completely lost on this one.

Not a full responce but honest... What do you expect any one to do???? I know from personal experience that most of the rest of the world dose not want to change...and any attempt to intervien will just be a waste of time... I do not know of one case where "humanitarian " aid and or military intervention ever actualy resolved or truly ended the likes of what is going on over there... and that is just the tip of the ice burg... what about al the rest of the world. How are you going to deal with all the rest of the killing going on????

"Typical" or "correct"?

Yes and no.

I've not known God to answer such important questions so generally. To one, something. To another, something else. Both answers are correct but only for the one to whom the particular answer was intended.*

*..and this isn't some transcendental mumbo-jumbo. I'm talking about the Living God, Our Father in Heaven.

No, a more typical response is that God would want His children to do the right thing, whatever that was.

God does not exist because if he did he would never allow that type of suffering to occur. A true all powerful, all knowing God would intervene. And if there is a God that does allow that type of suffering to occur, I do not want to meet him.

I do not believe that this is a "typical" Christian response. You live your life according to your chosen ruler . . . either you strive to serve Christ or you allow Satan to rule. And we cannot save ourselves.

the typical christian response is that exactly, forget the world and the reality of human condition and pray to jesus for forgiveness of your sins

why would you expect them to say anything other than, jesus is neccessary for your salvation

the jesus mythology of a zombie come back to life is all they will preach

It should be more like "Worry about your own salvation and god will punish those that are undeserving."
