While MIT is generally regarded as the "best" engineering institution in the United States, it may not be the best for you.

The list in my source shows a pretty good idea of the top EE schools. I would say choose based on location, cost and most importantly the opportunities there.

For example, some institutions might have a top-of-the line laboratory that you might want to get into. Some are much more open to undergrad research (if you want that). If you really know what you want, investigate the universities by those criteria since no school can be the absolute best in every aspect of EE.

For example, I like Ohio State for its comprehensive high voltage lab and its open-ness to undergrads helping in research. It also has a highly ranked EE grad program. I also find it within my means to pay for tuition and somewhat nearby my family.

I went to Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN and it is one of the Nations top engineering schhols. It as an awsome campus...I would seriously check it out if I were you.

Penn State...One in five engineers is a Penn State graduate or at least that is what they told me when I went there.
