Most nutritionists recommend 5 small meals spaced throughout the day, and to not eat after 7PM, and to have exercise as well since dieting alone will not work as effectively as diet and exercise.
My recommendation: for some of those, instead of having a small meal have something like pre-sliced celery sticks, apples, and/or baby carrots that you can keep ready and on hand to snack on.

Eat 6 meals a day. 3 main meals and 3 snacks inbetween each meal. But control your portions. Never eat till you're full. Just eat till you're no longer hungry. and snack just enough to satisfy your craving.

In order to consistently lose weight, you should eat hourly, with six hours at night without food. You may gain four or five stone in the first few months, but after you have the heart attack, you should lose it rapidly.

If you eat smart you can eat 6 or more times a day. Lots of green veggies, TONS of water, chicken; fish; baked, of course. Stay away from sweets, fats oils, (duh) and too many carbs. Notice I said "too many" and not totally. Learn what the good carbs are. STAY AWAY FROM SODA!!!!! Exercise, exercise, exercise!!
