Like just about everyone else has mentioned, the aspartame in the soda isn't great for you. It's been studied and shown to be a carcinogen but I've also heard that, that is in significantly high amounts - either way, probably not great for you. Also, the phosphoric acid in soda (diet or regular) is not very good for you. Considering what phosphoric acid is truly capable of doing, it makes sense that we probably shouldn't be putting it in our bodies. Again, I think this is in high doses - personally I have a hard time taking diet soda out of my diet, so hopefully it isn't THAT bad for you or I may be screwed. As far as the aspartame is concerned though, you could switch to the diet sodas that replace aspartame with sucralose (Splenda) which is better for you because your body actually metabolizes it the same way it does natural sugar.

The issue with diet soda is that artificial sweeteners could be harmful (but there is not conclusive research either way). Also, some say that artificial sweeteners cause you to crave more sweet stuff... which could sabotage your weight loss efforts (if you are trying to lose weight).

As with all things... I think it's about moderation. If you enjoy diet sodas, treat them as a treat and make sure to drink plenty of water.

Hope that helps,

Rachel

The main problem with diet soda, as with regular soda is actually the carbonation. Carbonation removes the calcium from your bones. And it isnt just soda, all carbonated beverages do that

I drink diet soda and find nothing wrong with it. I've even found soda with sucralose (Splenda) in it and like it...

...the only exception is Diet Mountain Dew. The artificial sweetener makes it taste like pure crap.

Are you crazy!! Diet Pop has loads of chemicals that affect your neuro system, expecially later in life!! Check out each chemical in a science web page source or
webmd.com and look at "aspertame."

The taste is nasty. No matter how much they try to sell you on the fact that it doesn't taste like diet soda, its still nasty, its just not as nasty as it could be.

It has aspartame in it which may damage your brain. It's also a tremendous appetite stimulant. Drink water and save your money.
