Because the media pushes in our face all the time. Thats all we see in every magizine,on T V , in hollywood etc. People just forget that when you are looking for someone that you should get to know them from the inside out.

Unfortunately it is because our society is a visual society. We are programmed to react to what we find attractive, when you go to purchase a car the first thing that attracts you is the looks, after you see what you like then you see if the other aspects of the car are suitable. The same goes in human nature, you go to what attracts you first, personality is important but that is not what a person see's first.
Usually in the end though the personality usually outweighs the looks. Seems like the prettier they are the less personality they have!

Sorry to say we live in a very superficial and cynical world. Looks shouldn't matter but then again you want to have some sort of attraction to him/her. Although it should be all about making each other happy, understanding one another, feeling comfort, it just doesn't always work that way. When your with your significant other you want to be proud to be with him/her. You want to let the world know that he/she is the person that you want to be with. Unfortunately everyone in this world will judge you whether you like it or not. It just all depends on you...are willing to take the heat for it. Can you honestly say you'll let people talk and not care what they think? It shouldn't matter but in some perspective it does.

Your assumption is incorrect. Just because looks do matter doesn't mean that they matter more than personality. Personality is a bit tougher to determine than is looks so it would seem that looks matters more however just being more obvious doesn't make it more important.
A very good case in point: Paris Hilton.

Beacuse people see your looks before they get to "see" your personality. Unfortunately, if they don't like the way you look, then they will treat you bad, or they will ignore you.
