Probably because she is a dog and they do things like that. Try to watch her and not allow her to eat things like that.

Grass is pretty indigestible for dogs because they do not have the digestive enzymes necessary to breakdown the fibre content ..which is high. Apart from fibre and water, grass also contains some minerals, vitamin A and sometimes vitamin D.

The nutritional value of grass for dogs is very poor...so there is unlikely to be a basic instinctive nutritional reason why dogs would eat grass ...unless they have a need for dietary fibre itself which is thought to be unlikely.

It has been reported (but not scientifically proved) that dogs will eat grass if they have a digestive system problem such as gastritis or nausea. They will also eat unusual materials if they have a nutritional deficiency, or if they are hungry and do not have access to food.

On the other hand eating small amounts of untypical foods ..grass, wood, leaves ..can just be a normal behavioural trait and is not important providing the material eaten is not toxic - such as laburnum leaves or sticks. Grass is usually safe - unless it has been sprayed with herbicide or insecticides.

You should seek the advice of your veterinarian if your pet is ill as only he or she can correctly advise on the diagnosis and recommend the treatment that is most appropriate for your pet.

Dogs have this really weird instinct. They know what plants are good for them and which ones are bad. If your dog has a tummy ache, it'll eat the grass outside cuz there's something in grass that helps calm their tummies. Or if they're sick they'll try to find a specific bush / leaves to make them feel better. It's a herbal thing for them so don't stress. Besides, they've got a strong immunse system so bugs won't kill them.

I know this might sound a little wierd, but.. my dogs/cats all do this too. First of all - dogs will eat bugs just because it is something they can catch - I assume your dog is with you alot? Um and also domestic animals I have seen over the years eat grass right before a storm or overcast or rain. Sounds wierd but it happens alot and is perfectly normal.

She may need more fiber in her diet. Dogs and cats generally eat grass. The bugs thing, that's probably instinct to eat something that moves. Regarding the wood, she probably just likes to chew. Get her a bone.

Is she a puppy? She may be teething, puppies do lose their baby teeth. She shouldn't be chewing on wood, that can be harmful if she swallows some and it splinters in her stomach or intestines. Grass may make her vomit, some dogs eat it when their belly is upset. If this is sudden, and she's an adult dog, I'd get her a regular check up by her vet. She may be lacking in nutrients, and needs a different kind of dog food or vitamin supplement. Good Luck!

Puppy's eat everthing just like kids you have to watch them bcuz they my eat something that will make them sick or block them up & they can die. That a lmost happened when my puppy yrs ago got a hold to some plastic. Anyway, a vet told me they eat grass at times when they have an upset stomach the grass makes them puke. so he/she ate a bad bug, wood etc. it made'm sick so now it eats the grass to throw it up. Just keep an eye on the puppy like a kid so it doesn't eat just anything.

i have the same problem my dog thinks hes a goat. Watch her and when she starts to eat the stuff you dont think she should tell her no. Most dogs are able to digest most anything they eat in the back yard. if that still isn't good enough there are products you can buy at pet store.

Well your dog is experiementing different things. Also dogs usually eat grass, mine even does, it helps their digestive system. If you feel very uncomfortable about your dog eatting all of these sorts of things, you should contact your vet.

Hope I helped!

That is pretty normal. Dogs eat all kinds of stuff. When you have to sorry is if they eat a ton of stones, any kind of hooks, or big fabric materials like socks that could clog up their stomach or intestine and cause them to flip over on themselves. Very serious. Torsion in the stomach and intussuception in the large intestine.
