It doesn't have to be cooking Sherry. Drinking Sherry is very good in recipes too.

Yep- you can use cooking sherry or you can use regular sherry. Cooking wines (even the fortified ones like sherry or marsala) generally have a lot of added sodium. If you don't mind all that extra sodium in your meal, use the cooking variety. If that bothers you, go to the liquor store and buy a bottle of sherry. Most grocery stores now have cooking wines in the section with all the vinegars, and in some states you might be able to buy the regular sherry if they sell wine there. Hope your meal turns out good!

Either. The only difference is that cooking sherry has added salt and is a lower grade of sherry. Cooking sherry can be found in the grocery store.

Yes it is cooking sherry and you can buy it in the grocery store, ususally by the salad dressings. I have been told do not use wine or cooking wine in the place of sherry.

Yes dear, that would be cooking sherry or wine.
And yes you can buy that in the grocery stores.
Depending on what you are cooking some of them taste differently when you add them to the food while cooking, so be wise when you are buying them. You don't want to waste your money and your food.

"Cooking" wine or sherry is usually cheap, low quality wine or sherry. Go to the wine department of the grocery store and buy a bottle of drinking wine or sherry.
Chef's logic hold that you shouldn't cook with anything you wouldn't drink.
(Cooking reduces wine and sherry to thicker, more intense versions of themselves. If you use nasty tasting wine or sherry to cook with, cooking it will only enhance the nastiness.)

Stay away from cooking wine!!! The wine you cook with doesn't have to be the best, most expensive wine, but it should be drinkable. Cooking wine is LOADED with salt. Manufacturers started doing this when they realized underage kids were buying cooking wine and drinking it. They added the salt as a deterrent.
