the last time i saw him was when i was three, i only know his first and last name. i'm wondering if there is a way i could contact him without having to spend alot of money.

Ask your mom for his name, and if she knows where he lives.
Thats what my friend did. He is 17 and he had not seen his dad ever. He asked his mom for his name and where he lives. Luckly, he had a not common last name. Look him up on the internet using white pages.

There are a number of online services that you can use to track down people that you used to know. If you can get his social security number (check with your mom or old documents that you may have around) then it makes life really easy because you can track him through tax records. Generally it costs between $30 and $75 to run a search.
There may be a group that does it for free for people trying to track their parents down, run a seach.

need more info than that to help.
try his parents, relatives etc.
If you know his soc.sec. # you could check to see if hes still alive.
and try people search in the last are you knew he was in.
