Originally, you needed to dial a 1 to be connected to the "interstate network". Now with people having to dial 10 digit phone numbers, that is no longer necessary, but since 1 is the country code for US, outside the states, the phone companies make us do it anyway.

Because "1" is the country dialing code for the United States.
As in how if you called the United Kingdom you would have to dial 44 for it's country code.

The"1" let the phone company know that you were trying to reach a phone number outside your local exchange area. This was important in the early days before digital switching equipment.

I have no clue. I'm neither a Jew nor a Christian, but these people at my university are passing out "Jews for Jesus" flyers. If you believe that Jesus is your messiah, doesn't that automatically make you a Christian? And if you're Jew, isn't it that you don't believe that the messiah has come yet? I dunno. I think "Jews for Jesus" or "Messianic Jews" is a contradiction and I'm curious as well. It's like saying you're a Christian that believes in Allah.

CPU_Angel, read the other posts. They are from people who obviously live in the U.S. and understand their own system. They know what they are talking about.

You clearly don't.
