Won't you have advanced training after your basic training??? Also although the reserves are not always on base.... they have limited time they have to spend on certain bases.... you also have to think about the fact that the reserves are basically always on call.... they can call you away at any point for anything and they do not have to tell you when you will be back how long you'll have to be away from your husband (and child when ever you do have one or some) once you join. Once you join the military, you belong to the government. You become a piece of property. How does you hubby feel, what are his thoughts of these things???..... I say talk with you hubby and do what ya'll can live with and be happy with. There are other jobs out there and for the payment of college, try grants and the like... there are many out there....

It is good. I don't think your missing much. Sept you know you can get called up anytime. But I'm sure you all ready know that. You even might thing about going in full active. If that is ok with your hubby. That is what I'm doing. You get more benefits. I totally understand the whole dead in job thing. Go to gocoastguard.com they have info for both Reserves and Full duty. Military has great benefits. Husband is in the navy so I'm not going off of what a recruiter says. Also on the website it will help you find a recruiter near you. It gives you lots of info about jobs you can get in the reserves.

ABSOLUTELY! The reserves is only 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks a year, right? And the benefits are outstanding - they pay for college, they may also help pay for your mortgage/rent, and sometimes they offer you a large lump sum sign on "bonus"! My hubby is retired Navy and just recently signed up for Air National Guard - just for the job security. If you like you job while in the reserves, you can always apply for fulltime work when there are job openings.
I cannot tell you how happy I am to hear that your hubby supports your decision - that will make your transition sooo much easier!
You go girl!

I can be good don't enlist get into a ROTC college program so you come out as an officer that way you have your college done -it is a 6 year commitment but not a bad deal because you will get a stipend while you go to college. I know that Fordham college has a program and lots of other schools do. Just make sure that is what you want to do...I hope that helps

if the coast guard is truly what you want to do i say go for it. it sounds like you have a very supportive wonderful husband. but learn more about it before you sign up. it may be more than you might be wanting to do. the coast guard and some of the bravest service men and women that we have. who knows? maybe a couple of weeks apart will make you two appreciate each other that much more.

I wouldn't join any reserves until THIS president is out of office and out of harms way.
For a Reservist, Bush, who has reporting issues (AWOL) NEVER, not one day, served overseas or in a hostile country.
And yet - he's sent National Guard AND Reservist overseas to Iraq and Afganastan.
This president is nothing more the a moron, a coward and generally, an imbecile, who is trying to be what he isn't capable of being... presidential and a leader... OHHHH he is so not a leader.

the reserves allows your to go to A school for thingslike BM that you cant do if you are active and you never have to move the most that you will be required to do is training drills on the skedule and every once in a while you would stand duty at the unit. its actually a great way for you and your family to take advantage of the bennifits the military has to offer and they will pay for your school.

If you REALLY want to and have THOROUGHLY researched it (sometimes the risks greatly outway the benefits and it isn't all it's cracked up to be)--I think it should be okay if your husband supports you.
However, if you are planning on getting pregnant in the next few years, already are, or already have kids---I would say absolutely not!!!!

I just retired after 21 rewarding years of Active Air Force. Going away for eight weeks is a peice of cake. Especially if you have his support, you should go for it. i have a lot of respect for the CG. they are a gret bunch of people and have a real Camaraderie. Go for it
