It is our fault the military is in Iraq. We keep using the oil.
So I think we are going to have our troops on the ground until either we reduce our need for oil or until Iraq has stability and an ability to defend itself.
Given Iran's quest for a nuclear capability and Al-Quaeda's ability to produce terrorists and gain support of Islamic governments (eg as it did in Afghanistan) then we might have a presence in Iraq for a long, long time.
If Bush's successor unilaterally withdraws prematurely it would be a disaster. For Iraq and for anyone who is against terrorism because there would be no control of who would take over.
For the record, I was completely against invading Iraq. I was appalled when I heard the description of the "Axis of evil". I thought we were "Sabre rattling" right up until we invaded.
However I am dead set against a withdrawal for withdrawal's sake.
If you have a loved one in Iraq then he/she has my utmost support. The only way they are going to come home in the short term is if they get rotated out of Iraq or if they are allowed to leave the military.

They will come home when the job is done. Why everyone cries about bringing them home is odd. What do you what them to do at home? Shine boots? This is what they have been trainned for, and they are doing a great job over there. As the Iraqi forces are built up, our forces will draw down. We don't want a Saigon 1975 over again when we withdraw. Lastly as of late its more dangerous at home then in Baghdad. Detroit, Philadelphia, Houston, are more deadly than life in the Green zone.

Our service men & women will come home as soon as they feel the Iraqi government is substancial by itself. These men and women know the risks of being in the military. They are proud to have serve their country.

These fine young men and women joined the military specifically for the purpose they are serving now. If you join the military for other selfish reasons than I have no compassion for them. I feel for real people who risk their lives everyday who actually believe in what they are doing. Joining the military is not conditional, it is either all or nothing and apparantly you are a nothing kind of person.

As long as there is oil there, I'm afraid we'll have troops there, or at least in the region.
I wish we could bring them home. I'm sick of seeing 19 or 20 year old kids getting killed in roadside bombings. Their lives are worth more than that.

Stop getting in their way of performing their job, like the media intentionally taking shots at their morale. The faster they get things done without being hindered by everyone else, the faster they can go home.
