I am an American citizen, I was born and raised in America. I am also the wife of a permanent resident of this country who is in the United States Army, in Iraq and fighting for our country. First of all, I do not appreciate the demeaning way that you spout off things about the men and women who are dying for you to say nasty *** things like that. Second of all, you can not join the military and be illegal!!!!!!!!!!! The government will not let you be illegal, you have to have some sort of identification saying that you are allowed in the United States, whether you have a green card, a social security number from being a temporary resident and what not. So, mam or sir, I suggest that you get your facts straight before you say something that you have no clue in the matter. My husband has been a permanent residnet of this country for 10 years and has been in the military for 5 of those years and has been fighting for his citizenship of this country that he risked his life for. It is the people like you that I wish were the ones who were sent to Iraq to fight for your own lives. I suggest you do your homework on immigration laws there buddy.

This is absolutely the ONLY way that I would advocate allowing an immigrant to jump to the front of the line to become an American citizen. After they have performed a full term in the military, regardless of whether they were sent to war or not, then yes, grant them citizenship upon their honourary discharge - but the immigrant only, and not any other members of his/her family. The rest of the family need to apply through normal routes, although at least now they would have a legal American citizen family member who could sponsor them if he/she so chooses. In my mind, joining the US military is the ultimate proof of your loyalty to the United States of America. I assume a person MUST know conversational English, at least, however, in order to join the military, and pass the medical/endurance/background tests/checks, etc.!

Kelly, is it really necessary to use that word?.........Words like that is what makes Americans look bad. It has nothing to do with race. It has to do with the law, and as long as we have people making it about race, the real issues will never be addressed. If the law say it is ok to get citizenship if you join the military, then I am all for it. If it doesn't then, do it the right way. It builds character. We must not find the easy way out people. We must persevere through hardship in order to build character. What are we teaching our children, if we chose to break the law because we are having a hard time. Think about it........

Your premise is faulty. Illegal immigrants are not entitled to join the US military. Granted some illegal immigrants have lied and joined the military under an assumed identity, with false documents, but when they are discovered, they are arrested, discharged, and turned over to the Department of Homeland Security.

Any immigrant who is in the US for less then 10 years and is not a citizen of the US cannot serve in the army. I have tried to becom a cadet and was denied because of my status.
However, I believe that immigrants should be allowed in the army, at least some of them. And if it would be true that they would receive citizenship, it would probably have to be after a certain period of time serving.

If an illegal immigrant serves in the military they should be granted citizenship. They would have already done more for the U.S. than most of its citizens have.

i imagine you've the start of a strong theory. i imagine the protection force and immigration would must have an complete new branch to regulate the information. case in factor, the persons father and mom were from a small island united states, little English. How did you already know what become consented to legally? How do the protection force instructors proceed, translators for all languages in boot camps and recruiting places of artwork. a lot of information

Why do you care...are YOU in the military? If someone is willing to defend our country...they deserve citizenship. I am anti-war, anti-Bush and everything...but what immigrants have to go through to legally become a citizen is 10 times more than any "born here" citizen will ever have to do.

your choice of the word "illegal" is fine! and how are all these global warming pseudo scientists on here, w/o a clue? it isn't a stretch of the imagination to think if they come here illegally. they can get enlisted using a US relatives or faked ID. it may be harder now, since 9-11 but not impossible. to make an argument that they cannot join our military because they are illegal. is as silly an answer as saying no way they can cross our border, because that would be illegal of them to do so! RIDICULOUS ;o)
its as if anyone would steal your check book, fake your ID take it to a store to make purchases. this is all plausible, but easily prevented by asking them for a phone number! no way anyone would be so brazen as to fake a phone number....lol
they're illegals, playing by the rules isn't exactly on their agenda.

The US has every responsibility to grant citizenship to anyone serving in our military. These people are willing to risk their lives in defense of our country and its ideals.
