It could be worms; but usually with worms comes a barrel-like belly. If he's thin and depressed there could be more wrong like problems with his organs. You need to take him to a vet to get him tested for thing internally like blood tests.
I don't want to scare you, but if he's thin and depressed, those are serious things that shouldn't be overlooked.
Good Luck!!!

Sounds like worms to me also. It's not called depressed, when your animal doesn't seem happy, it's called lathargic, and that is due to the fact the worms are basically sucking the life out of your cat. If you have seen a vet with this animal previously, most will give you worming medicines if you just give them a call and tell them the animal needs to be wormed. If you don't have a relationship with a vet - now is a good time to do so, and get a fecal sample done so they can test for what might be the cause. There are internal parasites that can cause this, that have nothing to do with worms, so not good news for you, there could be a number of things going on here.

If your cat eats a lot of food and is still very skinny, he probably has a hyper thyroid. The vet can test for it. Basically, the effect of a hyper thyroid is that their metabolism is kicked up really high and it does not slow down. This means that the cat will always feel hungry and even though they are eating a lot their metabolism will continue to lose weight. This is treatable with daily medication, which they will probably require for the rest of their life. I believe that this is a much better option than watching them slowly waste away while going untreated.
As for the depression: Does your cat go outside and get exercise? Are there other cats that your cat interacts and plays with?
My cat used to be strictly an indoor cat and had very little interaction with other cats. Once I started letting my cat go outside for a while, he became much happier. There are other neighborhood cats that he can interact with and he gets good exercise by running around outside.
People may not realize that cats are actually very social creatures. They are not social in the same way that dogs are. I believe that cats are more like people in the area of socialization. Cats require down time and being by themselves, and they still crave the same amount of frequent love and attention that people want.
I hope this has helped. Please get your cat to the vet as soon as possible and have them run a test for a hyper thyroid.

First you should take him to the vet. It could be a sign of worms or another sickness. My cat amber acted like this, and then a month later she was dying. So you really should get the cat checked out, and don't forget to give it lots of attention.

There's a good chance that it is worms. You should take the cat to your local vet to have him checked out. That's probably the best thing to do.

I don't know if it'd be worms. If that's a concern, you should visit the vet to have him tested. Do you have any other cats? If not, maybe he's lonely. We recently got a new kitten to keep our older cat company. They love hanging out with each other.

Worms sounds like a definate possibility, but to make sure I would suggest a vet visit, as only a doc can tell.

He could simply be ill. If he is a new cat, that could also be a factor. If you pick cats up off the street or they are ditched on your front step, they may be used to not eating and not need as much food as you are giving him. I would take him to a vet. :3

consider getting another cat for him to play with also. I know nothing about worms. He could be like some people who eat and don't gain weight.
