If you are going to cook it in the slow cooker, don't even defrost it. Seriously, there is no need to. Just adjust your cookign time a bit, you will be suprised how great this will work.
NOW--
If you don't like that answer, defrost it in the fridge. That is the very best way.

The best way to defrost would be to put it in the refrigerator. It is the safest bc if you decide not to do it you can always put it back in the freezer. When you defrost by microwave, by water, or by room temperature it is not advised that you restore it, you have to cook it, bc the bacteria would not be safe on the meat if you refroze it or refrigerated it.

i would just take it out of the freezer the night before and throw it in the fridge inside of a dish. it should be done defrosting by the time dinner comes around. if that doesn't work, try using a microwave.

In your fridge over night, you can slow cook a frozen roast, the cook time is just a bit longer.

Actually, a microwave is probably the safest in terms of bacteria, it allows for the shortest time between thawing and cooking.
A refrigerator is fine, also.

In the fridge overnight is the safest way (experts say). But if you're in a rush, put it in water for a couple of hours or nuke it in the microwave.

the only way meat can safely be defrosted is on the bottom shelf of a refrigerator.
