To me the real Northern California is the area north of Sacramento. That area includes Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen and the coastal big trees.

Lake Tahoe wins hands down. You can't beat the blue coldness of this lake. Then there's the pervasive smell of pine -- the smell is burned into my brain from childhood.

Try a boat ride on a hot summer day. There's nothing like it.
