well, *sigh* my dog passed away. he had failure in his kidneys and yes all of you, i spent a lot of money to take him to the vet very far away. there was nothing i could of done.i really don't know what caused his kidneys not to function, but that's life huh.

when the vet injected his belly he saw water coming out of it. so he had known that his kidneys were failing. i burst down in tears and the vet said he is sorry but he can't do anything. he said that he would have to die or he'll just suffer and die anyway in a weeks time.......man......that was hard.

Sorry, this is one for the pros so, where ever the nearest vet is, start driving.

There are so many problems that a swollen belly could be a symptom of that it is impossible to determine by that symptom alone. Bloat comes to mind and that is life threatening. Internal bleeding. Infection of the digestive system. Congestive heart failure. Hepatitis. Long list of possibilities. Sorry, swollen abdomen is not definitive.

Good luck, go now; your dog may not have much time left.

The cause can vary from:

* A fast change of food
* Feeding a food with too many carbohydrates
* Feeding a food with a fiber that doesn't agree with your dog
* Fast eating
* Intestinal worms
* Too many unfriendly bacteria in the gut

Treatment

# Get a good vet for your pet!

# Worm the dog, if required; your veterinarian should do this!

# Give charcoal tablets (at drugstores) at the recommended dosage, after each meal, until the gas disappears. (Human dose for large dogs, 1/2 for medium dogs, 1/8 to 1/4 for small dogs)

# Change to a home cooked bland diet or one from your veterinarian. Once the symptoms disappear, slowly introduce a food with a different fiber and less cereal.

# Add probiotics to the food (friendly bacteria for the intestines)

look up on the internet and find a vet ASAP, u gotta get ur dog in the vet no matter how far u have to drive because sounds to me that he's in a pretty serious situation so u will not wanna let it get worse while u wait any longer!!!

Definitely drive him to a vet right away. Has he been eating? Has he had any bowel movements? If not, it sounds like he might have an intestinal blockage, and if so, he might need surgery. Try calling the closest vet 1st and ask them their opinion.

Poor pup! Absolutely....you need to get in the car and take him to the vet no matter where the vet is. You can call first, but you know they are going to need you to bring the dog in.

It's been going on for a week, for %&*@ sake. Get him some help!

I know this is going to be what everyone else says, but...

You probably have to get in the car and drive however far as you have to to take him to the vet. Don't chance it, maybe call a vet first and ask their opionion before you drive.

Sounds like you have to find a vet! There could be something horribly bad with your dog! They can get some of the same ailments we do, and he is getting worse

I would call a vet and ask what they think, and if they say they need to see them i would get him there no matter how far it is. You would do this for a child wouldn't you. This is your responsibility. It could be something serious.

You should see if you think it is bloat? Is your do trying to puke but can't? Maybe you can just call a vet and ask a few questions. Good luck to you and your pup!
