If it is a question in the religious section or about religion then I would say yes people can use verses from the book they follow. But in other secton it might be out of line. Instead they could just say this is what my faith says and leave it at that.

Good question Jps245! As for my answer:
I don't think it's a good idea, because not everyone agrees that the bible is the word of god, plus the bible has been changed from the original word of god to interpretations by man, (i.e. the king james version of the bible) due to suit their purposes.
I am not a religious person so I don't read the bible. But I do think a way to get around someone quoting the bible as an argument is to agree that the bible does state that and ignore it as part of the argument.
As for you Angry Angel: You don't sound like you could debate circles around anyone and do sound somewhat inept. Stating inflamatory things, and insulting others is NOT the way debates work. Roflmfao, maybe you should actually use some of your so called intelligence. None of it is apparent in your "debate". Get a clue, actually read your bible, because even though I don't read I still know the golden rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I'm sure that there's something to that. Clearly you don't study your bible or anything else. Go write a 25 page paper on this and send it to me. I'll be expecting that paper within a week, and you must not, insult anyone you don't agree with or in any way demean anyone within this assignment.

Agreed. The only time I want a quote from the Bible for an answer, is when I ASK about a quote from the Bible.
Added: Wow! Stirred up a hornet's nest, didn't you? I should reiterate. (addressing your answerers now) People (christian or otherwise) should show themselves capable of independent thought. Even if it's just a simple, "I think this quote might help:". Relentlessly lording it over people that you've purchased the computer version of the Bible and doing endless keyword searches, does NOT make you capable of thinking for yourself.
And Angry Angel: This is Yahoo Answers, not Bible Study. I usually keep to myself in the entertainment section, but I'll put my 260 best answers up against your 7 any day, no research papers needed. If you found this question offensive, you didn't understand it. Try an English class.

I think it is perfectly fine to answer a question by quoting the bible. To the people who say that the people who do can not think for themselves, let me ask you this, how many times have you answered a question with a quote from a book, movie, something your friend told you, scientific experiment, etc…? You can look at everyday culture and the "what is in" phase to see that we answer questions with what influences us. So, if you build your beliefs on the bible, answer from the bible. If you build your beliefs on what is popular now, answer that way. Let us all remember though that the majority thought is not always the right thought. “The world is flat” was a very true statement until science proved it wrong. What do we believe right now that will be false 100 years from now, 10 years from now, 1 year from now?

Wow... how incredibly offensive. Apparently the only key to modern day "enlightenment" is to be disrespectful of the Christian faith... and so few of you bigots have ever even read the Bible. You speak of those who quote the Bible as "inept" or "weak-minded" because they use the Bible as a source or a quote, yet you all parrot the opinions of our over-liberalized society. Yes... all of you who speak of the Bible as out-dated "Bronze Age" trash are many times more simple-minded as the "tribesman" you mock.
Do I sound uneducated or ignorant? Am I unable to form my own sentences without the Bible? To the contrary, I am highly educated and could debate circles around any of you. I know such a great amount of information about my faith and how the Bible came to us that it would overwhelm your feeble minds.
That said, I would advise those of you who type to see your name on the computer to silence your ignorance. Unless you can present a 25 page research paper to me proving you have studied anything you presume to judge, your opinion means absolutely nothing. The only ones you might ever influence are those who are uneducated about their own faith, or those who haven't the understanding to see through your thinly veiled resentment.
For some of us, the Holy Bible is the greatest document known to man, and that does not require anyone's pity or arrogance. To the contrary, I pity those who do not recognize the wisdom and saving power of the Holy Bible. Your lives will always be in ruins, and you will never know peace.
One Love. One God. One Way.
Addition:
Oh yes, sir... let me bow to your mighty wisdom and your 200 and some "best answers". I really couldn't care how many times you've come on here and answered someone's inane question. As for my english, I find myself quite capable of holding my own against some internet-obsessed, arrogant atheist. I come on here, when I have the time... thus my 7 "best answers". The proof is in the pudding, my friend... I have a full, EDUCATED, and exciting life. I don't have the time to sit on here bantering back and forth with you... so maybe you should pull your head out of your own rear and see I was not offended by the question, but the hateful responses of the people who "answered". Besides... what does it really mean that your answers (or anyone's for that matter) are chosen as the "best"? The vote of people who frequent here isn't of a more educated variety than that could be found at a local mall... so why so proud? The internet is a fantasy world... nothing here is what it seems. I never claimed Yahoo Answers was a "Bible Study"... people can answer however they see fit... Bible quote or not. Deal with it.
Oh, and by the way, God bless you.

I have many times adequate printed scriptures from the bible for a question asking if there are any scriptures on a particular subject. even if, I not in any respect reproduction and paste. i understand some scriptures by using heart, even if those i do not i look up the "problematic" way. i bypass to the back of my bible and seem interior the index for suitable scriptures, I then turn to the scripture to verify it by skill of and make positive that's what i favor, and then I type it out onto the workstation. Like I stated I not in any respect reproduction and paste the scriptures. It in simple terms seems incorrect by some skill.

No, but you have to understand that people do that because they do not have a voice of their own. Not every answer in life has to do with religion, and there are many people who do not believe in religion as well as many people who believe in other religions. Quoting the bible is forcing them to something that they may not want to hear. Also by only being able to quote the bible to me shows a true sign of people's education. A mature responsible answer should be able to come from the knowledge we gain, and not from the beliefs of others.

Depends on the question. I usually don't quote scripture, but once in a while it seems pertinent. A few minutes ago, someone asked about when there would be peace on earth, so I quoted Isaiah, the "lie down with the lamb" stuff. Just seemed pertinent, course its my favorite too, probably has to do with the whole not getting eaten by wild animals and stuff part.

No. Unless the question is asking for a quote from the Bible, it's not a good way to answer a question.

Not if all the questioner wants is a straight answer. I think it is rude to assume that others are looking for a path to enlightenment. I have seen way too many heated debates on who is right and who is wrong, who's going to heaven or hell. If you ask a question and it is not posted in the religious category, why should you ever have to have a religious response.
Like Freud said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

If the answer is legitimate (accurate) and is not intended to be evasive, Bible quotations are perfectly reasonable. You may have to explain the context a little, but most intelligent persons are willing to listen. Most people object to Bible quotations on the basis that they have already assumed the Bible to be in error (that the answer is not legitimate) or that the answerer intends to be evasive (dishonest).
