As in previous answers MD is the basic medical qualification in US and many other countries.

In the UK MB (bachelor of medicine) and BS (bachelor of surgery) are the basic degrees conferred on medical graduates (although the BS is sometimes rendered BChir or ChB and the MB is given as BM by some universities).

And to add to the confusion, UK universities also grand MD degrees. However, unlike the US, these are actually 2 year research degrees, usually granted to medical doctors on production of a thesis of clinical (though it may be basic science) research.

So, to interpret what it means you really need to know where the doctor in question trained.

MB BS is the degree awarded medical doctors Great britain and other countries. It is equivalent to the US degree of MD (Medical Doctor). In the US dentists, chiropractors, and people with a Phd degree in any area such as english, mathematics or sociology are referred to as "Doctor". You can have a doctrate degree in mathematics or be a chiropractor but you are not the "doctor" asked for when someone yells "Is there a doctor in the house?"

These are different degrees.

MD - Doctor of Medicine
MB - Bachelor's degree in Medicine
BS - Bachelor's degree in science.

All of these are degrees...

In the United States, you typically get your BS first (not even havign to get a BS (can get something else) - but is a common route)

Afterwards, you can get your MD.

However, in Europe and some parts of Asia and Africa, you just get your MB.

In definition, they are different because you go to school differently - but in practice - they are the same.
