When I was ill sometime ago, my doctor asked me to take a Vitamin pill everyday. But then even after I'd recovered, I noticed that continuing the pills keeps me energetic all the day and I can keep on working for longer hours than I could earlier. But today one of my friend tells me that it affects the kidneys and suggests me to stop taking it immediately. Do you feel the same way? What should I do?

I believe that if they were helping you so dramatically then what you lack is a good diet. Try to get a healthy diet so that you get your necessary supply of vitamins from natural sources. As for vitamins hurting your kidneys, it depends on what dose you take. There are two categories of vitamins: those that are water soluble (i.e B complex and C) and those that are fat soluble (i.e. A, D, E and K). If you take water soluble vitamins in excess, you will just pee them out but if you take excess of the fat soluble vitamins then your body will hold on to them since they get stored. So, watch your intake of fat soluble vitamins for pills as well as natural sources. Here is an example: if you eat lots of carrots, spinach and other foods that are high in vitamin A for a few days your vision will get blurry since vitamin A is required for vision.
Finally, re-check with your physician whether you are okay with the vitamins to continue forever and if possible start eating a more healthy diet.

Of course, vitamins don't affect the kidney. There have been studies on this and it has been proven.
It is the most harmless drug to take which is why it is found as a over the counter drug.
I have been taking multi tabs every day since the last 6 yrs and my kidney is up and functioning very well, thank you.
