as with any airline, you have to go to lost luggage department and file a claim for the laptop. most have a limit of 1,000.00. over that they have special forms that have to be filled out and if they can't or won't help you, then you can sue them. the tricky part is its not like a plane crash. you have to try and show where jurisdiction would be as it could be in ternational waters and airspace or over the us. since you were enroute to clearwater. its a good chance you can file the claim first or suit from clearwater as the venue would be from where it occured.

File a report with your insurance company, if you had it insured. Otherwise, you're out of luck. That is why you don't put valuables in your luggage... things are stolen all the time. And no, you can't sue for it, it is one of the conditions of flying (check your ticket info) that missing items are not the responsibility of the airline/airport. Otherwise, everyone would claim stuff... there is no way to prove the item was in your suitcase see, so there really isn't a case to be made.

Sure you can file a suit against the airline but if you win they will pay you the price of a broken laptop and not for the information on it. Since you can buy a new laptop for $500 to $600 these days, it would not be worth your while to hire an attorney for a minimum of $500 and sue them. Just file a claim against the airline.

It is possible to sue the Airport and Airline because it's they're fault to begin with. I don't think you should do it pro se, so get a lawyer that has done it before. Pro se is were your your own lawyer by the way.

You can't sue anyone....you should have had extra insurance on your laptop maybe...but you also should have read the rules of carriage on your airline document....sorry you loose.
