When is it okay to call the cops or have animal control to come by? They bark for no apparent reason for 5 to 15 minutes at night and at 6am.

Since the barking is so short-term, you're probably not going to get a lot of help from the cops or animal control.

Dealing with neighbors is a nightmare. First, try asking them nicely with an anonymous note. You could offer to split the cost of having the dogs surgically debarked. Personally, I'd move before I'd live next to a neighbor like that, but sometimes that's not an option. I have a neighbor who goes to work early and slams his car door shut outside my window every morning. I've padded the glass with those closed-cell foam mats they make for gym flooring and keep a noisy fan or wind machine on while I sleep. That helps a lot.

Sounds like you've taken the high road so far in a very frustrating situation. Some fools recommend killing the dogs, which is ridiculous. It's really not the dogs' fault and killing a pet dog is a felony in most states, especially if it's on your neighbor's property. Bad neighbors are big on retaliation. If you kill his dog, who's to say he won't burn down your house? And his next dog might be worse. If you're intent on committing a crime, kill your neighbor instead. (Just kidding!)

Most areas have noise or nuisance laws - sometimes calling the cops can help, sometimes it can make it worse. Animal control will only seize the dogs if they are abused (ie, no shelter, no water, no food, etc). If you don't mind risking a war, get witness statements from your other annoyed neighbors. If the cops won't help, I'd try calling your local TV station and see if they want to do a human interest story on lousy neighbors. Show them as much documentation as you can, pictures and a log of how many times you have called the cops and gotten no help.

Hmmm... Make an audio tape of the dog barking, call your neighbor (from a pay phone!) and play the tape really loud at three in the morning?

Yes...you can call the police and have them go to your neighbors. It is a noise complaint, perfectly justifiable call to the police. They will talk to them and advise them a neighbor is concerned for the dog and shouldn't think the dog should be left outside all night. Also that the dog barks all night which is annoying and keeps you awake. Just tell the dispatcher that you do not need to see the police at your house and you wish to be anonymous. This way the neighbor doesn't even know who calls.

it depends where you live...if you live out in the country put some earplugs in because its not a big deal if you live in the city in a townhouse or apartment or something but on a noise maker. if you live in a suburban neighborhood, confront your neighbor see why the dog is barking if its a good reason and can be stopped try to help resolve it. a dog always barks for a reason. forgive and forget. but if it consistent and your neighbor is rude about it, go on ahead and call animal control to give your neighbor a scare. it can be an anonymous call too so no need to worry.good luck

well, ally I would think the best possible way to stop this is to talk with your neighbors. But since you mentioned being afraid I would think that maybe some sleeping pills ( not too much tho), peanut butter stuck to a dog biscuit and chucked at the lil doggies would work ( as long as you don't get caught ). Trust me, my old redneck neighbors had the same thing and I did that every day before going to bed. And the neighbors didn't say ****. lol

Well i have the same problem.. I live where there are dogs in almost every house. and they bark nonstop. If you call the animal control i think that helps because we have done that and now the dog doesn't bark as much, only when ppl walk by there house. So i suggest calling animal control and ask them to take a look..

5 to 15 mins a night is not considered a problem I wouldn't think. Dogs bark. I would ask them if they could maybe do something about the 6 AM barking. Just ask them politely, explain to them that it wakes you and all.

If you're actually scared of them, you could write a note, reminding them of noise ordinances (it's usually 8:00 AM), asking them to control the dog in the morning.

Talk to the police to see about enforcement of the rule in your neighborhood. I had the same trouble, but where I live, one more person within 100 feet of the dog has to complain.

if you live near any rail ways and you have trains that go by and blow the horn , that will hurt the dogs ears and they will bark or howl. but if you have a bb gun, that works too! lol. just kidding,
i would call the cops and they will go to the neighbors and warn them. i have the same problem. but my neighbors put their dog on the roof and you cant see them when you walk by. they will bark at you and scare the crap litterally right out of you . good day to you . and good luck.
