You need to seek professional help. You need to decide if you need or want medication or if you want to do it withut (and it is possible because I am living proof) you need to find the root problem as to what trigered this and become one with your feelings. Why have you waited so long to get help. I can't imagine how you are feeling because I felt before i started talking to someone that my depression got worse everyday. Depression does not just go away and you need to understand that it is going to take a while to see progress but when you do it is all up hill from there of course there will still be bad days but nothing compares to how you feel now on a daily basis. You do not need to be unhappy and this problem can get better so why put it off any longer. Good luck to you, you will be in my prayers. oh and someone said it is something you will live with your whole life.. I don't mean to knock OPINIONS but that is not true at all, I am still working with my psychologist and I am sure he would win that argument. Depression can be a part of your past but don't take the negative only from here because i know I tend to listen to the negative more than the positive but when you find the right help for you it will get better and you will eventually live your life WITHOUT depression.

Please, first go get help from a professional. There should be resources in your community that can help you whether you have money or not. You do not have to feel depressed. Professionals can help you find treatments that work best for you and it is their job to help you get better. If things are horrible (you want to die or are considering suicide or harming yourself) call 911 or find a local counseling hotline.
There are two major ways to help with depression, one is medication and the other is counseling. Medication is used to help the physical causes of depression, while counseling will help you with the emotional and behavioral causes of depression. Studies have shown that together they do a lot more than either one does alone.
Other things that can help depression:
exercise (this releases endorphins in the brain. these chemicals help you feel happy and satisfied)
journaling (having an outlet for your feelings can help you vent and help you figure out things that bother you)

You have to first find out the cause of your depression. You want something but you are not achieving it or may be something wrong happened with you. You need to first find the root of yourn depression and then try to find a practical solution to it. You have to be preactical and face the reality.
Practical people are never depressed but emotional people are.
Try to socilaize and don't be an introvet. Try to take a vaccation.
Drinking and smoking won't help neither do any medicine.
Watch a comedy movie.

I can't say that there is a right way to get out of depression. It really depends on how much you are willing to do for yourself to get better. I have been depressed on and off for as long as I can remember. It isn't something that just goes away or stays away. I won't even say medication helps because that all really depends on your condition. Find a psychotherapist in your area. They work wonders.

Try traveling and making new friends. Also try visiting Japan. And go for long walk outside on sun days. Think positive. Remember, Our live are like the course of the earth, in the darkest moment, there is always promise of light.

There are ways to cope with depression, but no way to get out.....depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain and is something you will live with your whole life.....you need to see a doctor so he can prescribe you some medicine and set you up with a therapist.....that's the only advice i can give you to help deal with it.....otherwise you just have to cope with it on your own and from experience i can tell you that's a much harder way....good luck.

Get to your PCP and if he/she thinks you need a specialist you wil be referred. Depression is a serious illness that needs medical attention. It is not good for your health to ask people on this website health related serious questions like this. You can get all kinds of inaccurate answers as a stranger has no clue about the source of the depression.

You will never "get out" of depression, but you can find ways of dealing with it and not suffering so much.
I have suffered with depression for most of my life.......I am now on medication and have a doctor I can talk to when things get real bad.
You need a good support system of people you can turn to for help. I know, I've been there.
