lest they become like us, was he just kidding around or did he not mean that he didn't want humans to become gods?

Again, (continued from my answser on your previous question), because many of the stories from the OT in the bible originated from the mythology of the ancient Sumerian tablets as did most other religions and mythologies. Over thousands of years the stories were passed on orally and as they were passed on they changed many times before ever being recorded in writing again by different cultures.

The lord of the gods, did not like humans, he certianly didn't like them being able to procreate. The story in the bible has changed so much that it has taken the multiple gods from the stories and changed them to one god. But they are all mixed into the story. In the old stories it was one lord of the gods that didn't like humans, and the creator god that loved the humans. In the bible both of the gods became combined into one god that is why he seems like he has two personalities. In reality, it was god #1 creating them, god #2 telling them not to eat of the tree of knowledge, god#1 sewing them clothes from animal skins, god#2 kicking them out of the garden, god #2 that was afraid they would try to become like gods know that they could procreate and sure didn’t want them to have immortality like the gods or they would be they same. Then god#1, (also the serpent), that tells them that is not true that they will not die from eating the fruit but will be like gods, (and they didn't die from eating it Adam lived 900 yrs).

It was god#21 that wanted to kill them with the flood and god#1 that saved Noah.

It was god #2 that didn't like them building the tower of Babel for fear they would try to be like gods again. And it was all of the other gods that he was talking to every time the bible screws up and uses the plural form of the works that stands for gods (Elohim spell?), and when it refers to god as speaking to us and we.

No, He meant that He didn't want them to become both aware of Right and Wrong and Eternal. No where in the Bible does it say that the Angels are Immortal. In fact, it only specially says that the 144,000 in Revelation that rule with Christ and God Himself are Immortal (meaning that they don't have life, THEY ARE LIFE). Immortality means the ability to exist with no air, food, or ANYTHING. You can never EVER die. Eternal life is the gift from God, and it is alway dependant on Gods grace. Eating of the Tree of Life would bestow eternal life and that was not an acceptable option to Adam and Eve since they had displeased God and fallen short through Sin.

There were two trees in the center of Eden; the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The latter is the forbidden one. He said nothing about the Tree of Life.

(With tongue firmly in cheek)

Personally I think He always intended to give them knowledge, but only AFTER they'd proven themselves worthy by tending the Garden.

Have YOU ever gardened? That's bloody hard work! So then the serpent comes round and tells Eve she and Adam don't need to bust their butts hoeing and weeding and pruning and pollinating and all that stuff; just eat this. Of course she jumped at it. Do you know what gardening does to your MANICURE!? She got Adam to eat and then the whole ball of wax melted on 'em. The Original Sin wasn't pride: trying to be as gods. He'd already promised them that.

The Original Sin was SLOTH! It's pride that keeps us from admitting it.

One tree, would introduce humankind to all kinds of knowledge, much of it hurtful, and not in the will of God at that time. Some knowledge, if given prematurely or out of context can cause great harm. This is the tree that Adam and Eve ate from and because of their disobedience at this point they became sinners. The fruit of the Tree of Life would allow them to have lived for ever. This is the tree he was talking about.

I believe God meant that certain priviledges were taken from them. In other words, when they disobeyed God, they committed sin. The whole purpose of the tree and the commandment was so that they would be obediant. If they had left the tree alone as directed, they would not have known sin. They would have been as pure as the heavenly spirit.
They were no longer pure. The act of sin barred them for whatever priviledges that God had for them, part of that was innocence and purity. The serpent taught them the meaning of disobediance.
I believe had they not disobeyed, the world would be a different place.

Only in the fact that man knew good from evil was he like God. God could not allow man to eat of the tree of life and live forever in sin.

7:19 To Adam He said 'Dwell with you wife in Paradise, and eat of any fruit you please; but never approach this tree or you shall both become transgressors.'

But Satan tempted them, so that he might reveal to them their shameful parts, which they had never seen before. He said: 'Your Lord has forbidden you to approach this tree only to prevent you from becoming angles or immortals.' Then he swore to them that he would give them friendly counsel.

Thus did he cunningly seduce them. And when they had eaten of the tree, and did I say to you that Satan was your inveterate for?'

So it was Satan not God

To fix what you miss quoted. Satan said to Eve that ye should not surely die, for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof then your eyes shall be opened and ye shall become as gods. Satan was lying to Eve. God said they would surely die.
