I've been told that there is a God because if there wasn't, how could things exist? Why can't people accept that perhaps existence itself does not require a creator or an origin?

I appreciate your reponses but none of you have answered the question. Why must their be an origin of existence?

We as human beings make logical connections about ourselves and apply them to the things that we experience. We have a cause, therefore everything else has a cause.

But what caused existence itself? Does existence require a cause?

I don't think anyone really understands the fallacy in believing that there is an origin of existence.

If you say that something caused existence, you have to ask what caused that which caused existence and so and so forth. So I think that there is no beginning and there is no end and therefore no origin (God).

But I'll put this thing to a vote for Yahoo users to decide.

There doesn't have to be a God... If YOU don't believe, then in your entire existence there won't be a god. You will live your day to day life just fine with the belief that there is no god. If you don't let it into your life then it won't be there.

As for the origin of existence...We did have to start somewhere. We didn't just miraculously appear out of thin air on the planet and start farming. Archeology shows us that there were others long before our society came along. So if we go far enough back there had to be some kind of origin, but I'm sure it will be debated forever or until some kind of proof comes along.

As for the "things wouldn't exist without god" What a load...If there is a god. Then he sure is wasting a whole lot of space out there. To concentrate everything on one tiny little spec of a planet and leave the whole rest of the universe empty is a pretty big waste for such a powerful being. Don't ya think god would have a few side projects going besides Humans?

People have been looking for a reason for existence from the beginning of the reasoning. It is why we have gone west, traveled to space, and created the Internet. The problem is that most people are not free thinkers they need someone to guide them. So people in power made a way to help people understand while also controlling them. As this has gone on for so long it is hard to stop. While a single God is a fairly new concept compared to most beliefs, it has had the strongest following because of the creation of the bible. A written word has come to hold great meaning to many people. While man has been able to reason for some time, the age of reason starts in the last 1500 years with the first printable document, which sadly was the bible. And so thus it has given it more power. As we continue to develop though I am sure that one day man will realize it is all a mistake and let it go.

COME ON idiots, don't about God as a person with lots of facial hair. Even the most skeptic philosophers had the most difficult challenge that is to accept there is a God. Read the works of Aquinas and try to understand the need for a God. And why are you so dumb, if existence does not require a creator then it must have an end, since it did not start from someone who did not required anything for his creation.

Why does there have to be a sun or a moon?
Why can't we just believe that life will exist and the sun is not required for anything to exist?

The question about the sun is no less relevant than a similar question about the Son/Father/God.

If I were a blind man and said that I do not believe in the sun because I never saw it and you cannot prove to me that it exists, would that make it true that the sun does not exist? I think not. Same reasoning goes with the existence of God.

If a blind man would accept the fact that the sun exists and look for the evidence of its existence, he would begin to notice things that he heard about it are really true after all.
The more he would study the evidence of the sun's existence, the more he could see - it really IS there - just as powerful as he heard it is.

Same with God, too. If a man would accept the fact that He exists and look for the evidence of His existence, he would begin to notice things that he heard about God are really true after all.
The more he would study the evidence of the God's existence, the more he could see - He really IS there - just as powerful as he heard He is.

if there was no god we would not exist. Because there is no way we just evolved take the draff for instents it could not have evolved because of it's long neck and enormous heart with out all of it's speacial boddy parts it would die if it tried to drink.
And there are so many other animals i could name that defi the laws of evolutin that tere is now way there was a big bang and every thing just happened to be in the right place because if the earth was in any other position then this one nothing would live on it . There is because there is. Everything has an explanation..
But how can you be sure about the thing that existence does not require a creator? Do you know that for sure??and also you don't know for sure if there is a God. I think you should search until you are absolutely right about your answer.

Have you ever studied the anatomy and physiology of any living thing? The sheer complexity of an organism, the fact that if we were much closer to or farther from the sun we wouldn't exist, the enormity and pattern of the universe, and the scientific principle that everything has to come from something...all of those things help contribute to my belief in God. It's hard for me to believe that such complexity can be either random or spontaneous.

It is possible that there isn't, but doesn't it intuitively seem very unlikely? You then have to believe, from utter nothingness, matter and energy came into being and somehow, without plan or reason of any kind, it gradually ordered itself into increasingly more complicated forms until it became so complex it spontaneously gained self-awareness? Doesn't there seem to be an extremely ordered construct and direction for no good reason? Isn't that even harder to believe than someone behind it had an idea first?

Everything has a beginning, even you how else would you have gotten here and if your mother are father had not have chosen each other you wouldn't be here. Most people have gotten so book smart, with degree for this and that, that they have become stupid and can't fathom any kind of existence other than what they think they have made, but God made everything that was made and ever will be made and nothing would be if he didn't make it so, even you

It is only logical. There are alot of people who lack logic and common sense. Humans have their own way of thinking and rationalizing and that's why it is hard for some to believe. Also, if you have never seen it, why believe? You can go on living without believing and that could be your perogative, but the day you day, you would have wished you could have taken the chance to believe. Have a good and prosperous life, as this might be the only one for you....
