my tv likes to defualy to having cc on, and the only way to turn it off again is to use the remote that came with the tv, that's rather annoying, espcialy since I use a universal remote since I got a DVR I don't need the tv's remote for anything besides that.

also other then the annoying cc issue the tv works great. so I'd rahter not go through the hassle of taking the tv down from the 2nd floor apartment and lugging a new one up there if I don't have to.

I suggest you get a multi-device Universal Learning Remote. You can find one compatible with your DVR and you can program a CC button on it for the TV. Cost like $25 bucks and up depending on features.

If your TV defaults to CC after an outage then there is not really much you can do other than what you are already doing. The only other thing I can think of is that you could buy a battery backup that would prevent the set from losing it's memory during a power outage.
