believe that you can teach a child about God and the Bible at a young age (say 5 years old)?

I was just checking because some said that I was crazy for thinking that you can teach the Bible to a child, especially at 5. I'm teaching my son now and he's 3 and understands. You just to get on their level of thinking.

Brianna, you continuously spout the word "brainwashing" in almost everything you post. I beginning to think that you do believe and are just putting up a front, but only God knows your heart.

Well Mark, as Christians, we are taught to teach our children who Jesus is and pray that they accept Him into their hearts and be saved. You can't make a child be saved. They have to make that choice on their own of course.

Thank you to those who have proved my point. A child is capable of learning at ANY age.

Mark, I am not Muslim. I am Christian, therefore I am teaching my child the Christian faith.

Shoot, I had already persecuted my first non Christian relative by then. I think that's why I'm not a Christian anymore.

I do. The Bible says, "Train up a child when they are young and when they are old they will not depart from it". However, children must be taught starting with the basics and as they are older taught the deeper things of the Bible. Also, we need to stick to the truths of the Bible and not teach them ,for instance, that the ark was a lovely little house boat like they see in pictures. In the Bible the ark was constructed a whole lot differently than what many teach them. Be honest with them.

God made the Bible simple enough for a young child to understand, yet deep enough that the most scholarly would be challenged.

This is one of the many attributes of God. My two children understood well before they were 5 years old. I simply told the stories of the Bible.

One of the most memorable times with them was in the car, they were in the back seat, one was still in a booster seat. They were discussing the cruxifiction and how God had put the prophecy in the Bible long before Jesus came. Their understanding blew me away, since I hadn't taught them that! they learned it in Sunday School.

I made sure that going to church was a positive experience, not an experience that they were scared into. I never forced them to go to church, they wanted to go, because it was fun.

They are grown now. They both still have a strong faith.
I agree that you should let children choose their own path.

The brainwashing happens in cults like Jehovah Witness'. Cults believe that it is their denomination ONLY that is going to be in Heaven when they die.

If a child can learn how to speak a complex language like english by 3 or 4 years of age, certainly they can grasp by 5 the stories in the Bible and grasp a little bit about God.

I believe that a person can teach a child about God and the Bible from the day the child is born.

Give me a child until he is six.
After that you can do what you like with him, and he will remain true to me.
(Jesuit maxim)

Their idea was that by teaching the child nothing but the Christian way of living, anything done after the age of six was irrelevant, because the child would continue to be a faithful Christian.

I know for a fact that you can teach the Bible to children at a very young age. My granddaughter, who has some leaning challenges, from complications at birth, is only three and has learned some of the Bible already.

If we ask God to help us anything is possible.

Thank God there are actually people out there that are teaching their children about God and Jesus! From some of these questions and answers on this site, it looks like a lot of parents failed and did their kids a great disservice!
There are so many great resources for teaching young children about God. I started with my children by kneeling every night and praying with them.

I know what you mean now...if you wanna prove a point you will (sorry to tell you this) just prove me on how christians are brainwashing their kids.If you claim that your religion is so right then why don't you just let that kid to grow up, explain him/her how your religion works, and also how muslims, jewish, and all the other religion works, and just let him/her choose what he/she thinks that is the best.I mean if your religion is the best religion your kid will also pick the same religion when he/she will be a grown up right? A 5 years old kid can't choose between right or wrong only what you tell them what is right or wrong. But he/she will can choose when will be 15!Easy huh?

EDIT: i can get that you have to teach your kid god's word, but then it wouldn't be more fair if you would also learn your kid what Allah said, i mean Allah is also a god for muslims?

A child can certainly come to know Jesus and the message of the gospel.

Luk 18:16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
