I would like to make battered potatotes one night for dinner (I saw them at the San Diego County fair and I have a bad craving for them). How do I go about frying something in a shallow frying pan (because that's what I have)? I don't have (or feel like) investing the money to buy a frying pan just to cook one dish.

Do in manually by heating up oil in the pan and flipping your potato's. Just keep the grease at a temp to keep it from splattering. Remember that batter has moisture in it and when the moisture hits the hot oil it will splatter.
