A quick reading of the 'Beattitudes' seems to leave Bush and Co. at the fuzzy end of the lollipop, in my book. Too bad for Bush it's not Old Testament days, kill your enemies with the sword in the name of God, and give all your rich pals a bit of tax relief (see David's political career, II Samuel, I Kings) -- he'd be standing right there next to Elijah as God's number one guy.
But, seeing how the New Testament has superceded the Old, with turn the other cheek and bless those that curse you, and take care of widow and orphans, I'm thinking God's wondering how the American interpretation of the scripture wandered so far from the original. How does 'bring it on!' stack up against 'the meek shall inherit the earth'? I'm thinking way down on the bottom of the stack.

Every leader does things that are "un-Christ-like." Still, every leader was established by God. I have no clue what that all means, but in the end the story will all have played out under the direction of the people that God chose to lead the nations.
I don't suggest for one minute that we should sit back and let it all play out without voting and expressing our opinion to people in government (and others who we deal with on this planet). I don't know how it matters, but I'm quite sure it does.
I don't think this is the verse I am looking for, but it will do. The point is to show that all authority is established by God.
Romans 13:4
The authorities are sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for you will be punished. The authorities are established by God for that very purpose, to punish those who do wrong.

I don't believe God sits there approving or disapproving things. God's in there trying to humanize our government's treatment of other human beings. And in us trying to inspire us to follow the goodness in our hearts and not the selfishness. And in the Iraqis on both sides, the Iranians, the North Koreans. If we take a "God's eye-view" of things maybe our attitude will change.

Although i dont know God personally, I'd have to say God couldnt care less about our politics, if you remember he gave us free will, this is our invention, and our mess to deal with should it all go wrong. I'm sure the Jews were asking god for help when they were mistreated by a Government. If you remember, it was America and Russia primarily who saved them. Not Gods arena my friend, thats YOUR arena, so vote and do something about it. There are no answers for this in church!

We'll never know. Because if someone talks to God, how do you know when you get an answer? I'm afraid of people who think they have a pipeline straight to the "man upstairs".
Noone speaks for God, but there are a lot of people on earth trying to.

I doubt if The Almighty looks with favor upon any government, and the current administration is not likely to be an exception.

God is no respecter of persons, obviously, and as such is not concerned with the politics of the day (as politics, along with great empires, wash into the sea, actual or figurative, eventually). God is concerned with saving the world. The world, to Him, is not the world that people see. He sees human souls, not the day-to-day particulars of humans' political circumstances. To aver that God is concerned with a temporary political situation is inane.

i don't believe of God has licensed of any u . s . a .. He has tolerated many for a lengthy time period. yet do not doubt this; he's utilising this u . s . a ., and George Bush too. he will have his way. typically GW isn't any worse than the those that elected him, you and me. Mark Twain reported it extra acceptable; Politicians are liers and thiefs, which makes them eminently qualified to signify their constuents.
